I loved my 4g, the loudness of the speakers was second only to the HTC TP2.

    8MP camera.

    LARGE text in all apps.

Now with my evo3d My loudness even with a gingerbread loudness booster from the app store makes no real difference and most importantly, I can't read the text no matter where on the phone I am due to the 960 x 580 screen resolution.

So, do I go back and get a 4G again OR with eventual rooting and or HTC Updates will the EVO 3d be worth keeping?

I have 15 days to my 30 days are up to decide.
    Anybody in a similar situation?

    AGAIN my MAIN issues:

    Text too small phone wide

    Loudness of speaker : Poor

Side by side test with a youtube test between an evo 3d vs EVO 4g the 4G wins hands down with loudness off the charts on the 4g compared to EVO 3d.

So keep it and wait for changes or swap back for the EVO 4g?

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I guess the EVO 3d was not a worthy succesor to the 4G, I guess the dual core Ill miss the best, wish Sprint had a worthy 4G successor

Keep the 3VO, it is very close to being permanently rooted (i.e. they have a temporary root already available and permanent root is next). I suggest trying to get used to the difference in loudness between the 3VO and Evo 4g. I often use earbuds, beats by dre headphones, or external speakers. I find the 3 MP difference in the camera somewhat sucky, but the 3D capability is a plus even though it is not autostereoscopic. I am looking forward to the day when I have my 3D tv in home and can watch home videos that I shot with my phone in 3D! Also, the longer and skinnier size of th 3VO compared to the Evo 4g makes it even more of a worthy successor to the Evo 4g in my opinion.

I believe the loudness issue can be resolved (if you listen to the FM radio on the speaker it is really loud) which indicates the speaker can be amped up quite a bit once we have SU.

Text is something that will be something that can be also be resolved in a lot of different ways. What apps are you having problems with regarding small text?.

The camera is better than the Evo in most respects. While it is lower MP, the sensor is better, which improves overall quality and has much better results in side by side testing (including my own personal testing where I found the Evo has a lot of noise in pictures)

If you just want louder sound and bigger text, switch back.

It is, it just doesn't match your particular requirements. Most people are okay w/ the 3vo's loudness, even though it's not as high as the 4G's. And most people are okay w/ the text size on the 3vo's screen, and it is technically an upgrade from the 4G, and again it just doesn't fit your particular need.

Check out the Galaxy SII when it lands on Sprint, that one has 800x480 resolution so you'll at least get the larger text, don't know about speaker volume though.

Well will the galaxy SII be out by July 24th?

Rumors were saying yes, that the Evo 3D was coming out on June 24th and the GSII is to follow a month later, on July 24th. But none of that is confirmed.

However, I'd say it is likely, since in 30 days, people can no longer return their 3vos and their current $125 port in credit is set to expire on July 23rd.

You know you can change the size of the text right? In your messages, just go under settings and select size. It starts on medium and you can make it larger or smaller. As far as sound, well, yeah EVO 4g is slightly louder. But that's a personal preference bug. Camera wise, I think it takes better pictures than the EVO 4g. The only thing I wish about my EVO 3d, and this is just not picking here, is that I wish it was as wide as the predecessor. Otherwise I personally feel it tops in all aspects.

why do you need us to tell you which one when you have used both of them?

which one do you like better? Keep the one your more happy with.

you really need strangers to let you know which phone YOU like better.

People like to hear other people's opinions and rationales. A post just saying "pick the one you want", isn't helpful at all.

anyways to answer you question since you asked. I would keep the Evo3D. Its a better, faster, prettier display, fits better in the hands, better battery life, camera button, sense 3.0 and 3D is just a plus on top of that. I really enjoy the 3D videos. But even with out it, its still a great phone.

go to google and read up on megapixels. just cause a camera has more mega pixels does not mean its a better camera. the Evo3D takes much better pics than the Evo4G imo. My fiance has my old Evo4G and we have taken pics of the same thing at the same time and the Evo3D wins hands down everytime.

the thing i really enjoy on my 3d is a feature that i use to use on my TP2, when your on a call you flip the phone on its face and it turns the speaker on automatically. I use that all the time.

To answer you sound question, get the program Equalizer and it makes the sounds so much better once you adjust it.

im sorry but normally people ask for opinions when one of the products isnt out yet or they haven't gotten to try it yet. why do you need to hear other opinions when your an adult and can formulate them your own. its different if you dont have access to one of the products.

A side debate isn't helping, doesn't matter which side, nothing personal. Opinions have been expressed, let's please let that go.

    Cheers, thanks. ;)

i actually just reactived my 4g..the 3d wuz very fast , screen wuz very nice, 3D is nice but not necessary for me...but didnt like the slim size...hated the smaller keyboard when typing, print, icons ,taskbar all to small...i always said from day one with the Evo that it wuz a perfect size..I'll wait till something comes along the Evo 4G size

I still have my EVO 4g and using the two side by side helps me see what an improvement the 3d really is. However, the original EVO is far from outdated. Still a worthy phone in todays world. You aren't missing all that much compared to the new stuff.

Played with an sgs ll finally as well. Did not excite me at all.

Quite honestly, i went into the sprint store today to pick up the 3d, but after using it for about half an hour or so, i really found nothing about it more appealing than the original evo...Not that it was a bad phone or anything, it just didnt do anything for me ya know?

Sense 3.0 was pretty underwhelming and the 3d effect was pretty subpar. I cant help but feel that the evo 4g+ will be the true successor to our beloved Evo 4g.

All in all i was pretty disappointed since i have really really been looking forward to getting this phone. But ill be stickin with the original

I dislike the smaller text on principles, though I can't honestly say it is a real problem. Same for the speaker volume.

I like the narrower size for holding purposes, dislike it for viewing purposes.

I really like the faster, smoother functioning and higher graphics resolution.

The 4G certainly ain't awful. I briefly investigated switching to verizon before unlimited data went away, and the best phones with 4G they had available were only slight improvement on the 4G when the 4G was a year old.

    But I'm keeping my 3D.

Text size: that's a side effect of the higher resolution. As for controlling the size of text for all apps: that's a tough one because any given app may or may not support controlling that. HTC did try to enlarge the homescreen icons, and most people hated it because of the fuzzy borders. If large text size is important to you, you should avoid higher resolution screens for now. And remember, it's all relative. For my Mom, even the text on the Evo 4G was too small.

Speaker volume: unclear whether this can be fixed. It's a good possibility but I'm not holding my breath. Also note that E4G had possibly the loudest speaker of any smartphone ever. Not exaggerating. If you put any phone up against E4G, it's going to lose. Not only was the E4G speaker loud, it could do a pretty wide frequency range, so you got a fuller sound. E3D sounds tinny, and making that louder still won't make it sound as good as E4G.

So, if these two issues are your top priorities, going back to E4G makes a lot of sense.

    As for my personal opinions:

Text size: I'm young enough to still have perfect near sight, and I love the higher pixel density. So E3D display demolishes the E4G screen.

Speaker volume: the alarm wakes me up at volume setting 5 of 7, so that's plenty loud for me. When an SMS comes in and the phone is in my pocket and I'm driving with lots of background noise, I hear the phone at volume setting 6 of 7. When listening to music or watching a video, I prefer to use my headphones to get the full frequency range. Speakerphone during a conference call is loud enough with the phone on my desk next to me. I definitely prefer E4G volume and richness, but this one is pretty low priority for me.

I think you guys need to relax and wait until the updates come out, to say that the old evo is better than the 3d is just ******ed... yeah there are a few bugs but nothing that cant be fixed with updates or future rooting

How are you able to listen to the radio through the speaker? Everytime I attempt this Im told that headphones are needed for the antennae. Do you have a specific app, or know of a way to bypass this?
  25. Thefoodman52

    Thefoodman52 Well-Known Member

Yes, you need headphones plugged in, because the phone uses the cable from the headphones as the antenna. Just grab a crap pair you don't care about and hit speaker.
Back where i used to work, I took a $.50 pair, ripped the earbuds off and soldered a bunch of extra wire we had lying around together and ran it out the back door. Got near perfect signal, considering it was an all metal building.

    TLDR;
Plug in headphones and hit the button that looks like a speaker. The phone will play the radio through the external speaker, but you need heaphones to work as the antenna.
