I'm no novice to Android, it's just Samsung seems to have made a lot of changes to this phone's settings menu, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to shut off the default SMS notification because I use Handcent SMS for my texting duties.

    Anyone figure this one out?

I would also like to know how to disable the default messaging notifications. I'd rather use handcent than the stock one. Ive searched all over the place and nothing. If anyone knows, please share, thanks

Go to the Stock messaging app -> Press Menu -> Settings -> Scroll Down -> Un-tick Notifications :)

On other android phones this might be true, but on the behold it isn't. All there is is sending options. There is nothing about notifications.

Messages > settings > text message, picture messages, voicemail, push message, manege sim card messages

There is nothing about notification. Thanks though.

Aside from using an alternate home, the only other means I know to get to the stock menus is to use the voice dialer. You don't even have to get the exact menu name...just get close. Try saying "Open sounds and display".

I tried the Voice Dialer approach, and here are the options in the menu:

Silent Mode; Ringer Volume; Media Volume; Phone Ringtone; Phone Vibrate; Notification Ringtone; Audible Touch Tones; Vibrate Touch Dial Pad; Audible Selection; SD Card Notifications; Orientation; Animation; Auto Brightness; Brightness; Screen Timeout.

There is still no option to change the message notifications. I have OpenHome, but I did the Voice Dialing anyway, just to try it. Still nada.

hey on top of that, your default notification sound is the same sound for everything. you cant change the sound for anything. i use to have the g1 and i would have a sound for email, and one for text. now its all the same.... CRAZY!!!

I'm using OpenHome and can't turn off the notifications. I've turned off the handcent notification instead and it seems to be working.
