and doesn't work, is there a chance Verizon would allow me to trade it for an Incredible? I just got this piece of crap in January, after the Verizon salesperson convinced me not to switch to an iPhone, as was my intention. She said I'd get the turn by turn navigation I wanted when I got the software update in February (which didn't come until May) and since then, the phone has a mind of its own, the screen scrolls all the way to the left, it locks up, and when it does work, response time is ridiculously slow. No one seems to know how to correct this, either. I took it in and got it reset to factory settings, but that corrected the problem for about an hour.

I should have just gotten the iPhone instead of listening to the load of bull the salesperson gave me about how great the Droid Eris is.

The Droid Eris is a fine device. I and many others use it with no issues whatsoever. Sounds to me like you've got bad hardware, or maybe the update messed something up. Either way you should be able to replace it for a new unit without the issues. Little to no chance on getting the Incredible though, unless you've got several hundred dollars to pay full retail pricing on it.

In the future, try to do some research before you go into the store. Know what phones are out there, what the specs are, and what you are wanting out of a device. Then, play with each one of them for 5-10 minutes to see if it feels good to you. The salesperson doesn't care what phone you buy, as long as you buy a phone from them. They will tell you anything to get you to buy a phone and lock you into a contract.

Yes, get it replaced. I haven't had any issues, no silent bug, no trackball/scrolling issues, nothing. The only thing is that it lags a bit after a call is ended. I don't have a single problem with it.

Ditto, I was very frustrated with my Eris until I got a refurb. The replacement is like a totally different phone. When I had my buggy old Eris, I didn't realize that I was missing out on what could have been a completely functional phone.

I've had my phone since last November, and I have not had a single issue with the hardware or software.

I am sorry that you don't like the Eris. I fully researched the phone after first seeing it in the store and am fully pleased with my purchase.

If it makes you feel any better, I am not pleased since the 2.1 update.

Demand a replacement. If that replacement is defective, demand the Incredible or threaten you'll switch to an iPhone. Easy as that.

I'm like the opposite here nes, my first phone was a champ, i even ran it for a month with a half broken screen with no problems at all lol. This refurb I got has the Silent Call issue and it seems to happen at the most unnecessary of times lol. I now run no OC or anything, just a good ol plain jane rom and it still happens. RIP to my first Eris

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the new ota will address the silent issue, but if not, you should get another refurb.

I would have to say that the Eris is not garbage and more then half the users would agree.
You might have a defective device they are out there.
If your so keen on trashing it without giving it a second chance
then get an iPhone. Just remember not to hold it.

I have had my Eris since December. I use it everyday to text, make phone calls, surf the web, download and use apps/widgets. I have been on all three of the leaked operating systems and have not had a single problem with my Eris. The battery life could be a bit better, but that's to be expected on a smartphone that has Wi-Fi, 3G, GPS and the fact that I live in a rural area with poor cell coverage.

As others have mentioned, sounds like you just need a replacement phone

Im on my 3rd Eris and despite the problems Ive had/am having, I still really like this phone.
Bought my first Eris in December. Ran just fine. Then I installed one of the leaks. thats when my problems started. Silent bug and lag being the ones that irritate me the most. So I brought the phone into verizon, They replaced it with a refurb that lasted less than 24 hours. I put the phone on the charger over night and in the morning it was DEAD. Couldnt even turn it on. So they replaced it again with another refurb and Im right back with the same problems I had before. I went into the store yesterday and told them what was up. I agreed to wait for this new update to hit my phone and see if it fixes the problems. I missed a very important call due to the silent bug that ended up costing me a couple hundred dollars so Im not very happy that they are aware of the problem and still sending out defective equioment as a replacement.

I'm with zutmin. I am on my original eris that I got in November. Never had a hardware issue, never needed to consider trading it in for a refurb. Did a factory reset after the 2.1 ota and haven't had a problem since...never had silent call issue. Being my first smartphone there was a big learning curve but I don't think anything worse than a new iPhone user would have. I love my Eris but will probably trade up in August to an Incredible, which I will probably love to. Sounds like you just got a bad phone. Happens.

Your statements, language and overall demeanor about your phone make me wonder why you have not had it replaced.

I think the problem with the Eris is that there are SO many defective phones out there. Then, those phones get traded in for replacements, and I'm convinced they do nothing more than factory reset the bad ones and send them back out as replacements.
I'm on my second eris. I occassionally have the silent call issue, my screen still scrolls left (at least it's only when it's charging now), and I still have terrible dialing lag at times AND I'M ROOTED AND OVERCLOCKED.
To get my phone to be even half of what I want it to be, I had to root, and I still have all sorts of issues. It seems, imo, that HTC makes products that, when they work, are great, but you're rolling the dice on getting a device that works.
And how do you release a device that you know damn good and well that will not be able to meet supply demand? If I wanted an Incredible now, I'd have to wait until at least the end of July. Could they not foresee that demand would be high and the AMOLED screens supply would be well under what is needed to meet the demand?

To sum up, I would NEVER recommend getting an Eris to anyone. I wanted an android phone in December, and I couldn't put up with having the brick that is the Droid in my pocket. Now I'm stuck with a phone, that functions poorly as a phone and functions with mediocrity as a smart phone. I shouldn't have to keep trading in a product for another product that may or probably won't work as it is designed.
