Skyrocket ICS out?!General

A guy I know showed me ICS on his AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket running Android 4.0 / ICS. I checked for updates, but I don't have any updates. Did AT&T release it or not? Is there something wrong with my phone?

When you update os do you lose all your apps and saved data?

Yes. You lose all yours apps and saved data on the internal sd. Google Play remembers which apps you have installed and you can re-install apps after os update.

anyone have a video of this rom on the skyrocket? I just want to see what the features are and how they look, it's much better than reading it on paper.

I take it, you have to root your phone to do this, correct?

No root required, this is an official build. You can root if you'd like.

I did mine last night, took about 30 minutes and I rooted it while I was at it.

Here are the steps (borrowed from XDA)

    {Installing ICS LEAK}
    Step 1: Download ICS OneClick
Step 2: Boot into Recovery (Both volume buttons and plug in your usb cable)
Step 3: Load up OneClick, click start then let the magic begin

Now this is up to you, but you will need the superuser file for it which can be found here
[GUIDE]{ROOT}How To Root The ICS Leak - xda-developers

    {Rooting ICS LEAK}
    Step 1: Get odin: http://www.mediafire.com/?755bzi94dhzfgx7
    Step 2: Get SKYROCKETCWMrecovery: http://www.mediafire.com/?5xc7gjkrbwihajp
Step 3: Flash SKYROCKETCWMrecovery (uncheck everything except auto reboot and load SkyrocketCWMrecovery.tar in PDA slot and click start)
Step 4: After reboot shut it off and boot into CWMrecovery using power/volume buttons and flash the superuser.zip on this thread
Step 5: Congrats you now have ICS Rooted

Ok, so if I do the ICS leak install without rooting, and then the actual update comes out, will I still get the update or am I totally good to go?

From my understanding, you should be fine on update roll out with this since it is an actual build release 4.0.3

Ok, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've tried to download that file 4 times on my phone and everytime it gets to about 20% it fails.

OK, so do I download the file from my phone and run it, or do I download from my computer and install it that way? I'm new to this stuff.

Download the zip file to your computer....I used SuperOneClick to install it. Power off your phone, and while holding the volume up/down at the same time, plug it in to the computer and let it boot up into download mode and then click the zip file and let her do her thing.....it took about 15 mins for me.

Works like a champ....oh, and back up your files...hell, take out your sd card. I forgot to do mine and lost everything...lol

Nice, glad it worked out. Yeah I forgot about the SD card and lost it all too.

Did you root the phone as well?
  18. AirMech74

No, I didn't root it, I thought I'd wait to see if I actually do get the OTA update...I might root it later.

So was ICS worth it? Or, is just a slightly different touchwiz. Someone please post a review.

For me it was worth it just for google chrome, its the best browser i have used on a phone yet. Other than that i would probably be fine with waiting for the official update to come out, its basically the same with a few tweaks and improvements here and there. It runs much faster and is very snappy, i definitely like the lock screen much better, and they finally made a keyboard that i can use without cursing up a storm. The old stock keyboards never worked for me and i found my self backspacing every other word, i haven't had any problems so far with the ics keyboard. Overall im happy with the update but if i had to do it over again i would wait for the official update to save myself the trouble of re downloading all my apps and re customizing my settings.

Only if you install the leaked ICS update. When the official one is released, it would not override your applications and files.

How do you know when the official update is out? does it just pop up on your phone

Not sure, but I think a notification will appear in your notification bar once it comes out....or you can just come here as it will probably have several threads lol

I've been using the leaked ICS version for 2 days now and I'm going back to Gingerbread.
    1. I'm having issues with text messages not coming through or only getting part of the message

    2. The stock email app stops sending emails on an an Exchange account. It will work fine until you make any settings changes to the account then you have to go into the Outgoing box and click Refresh in order for it to send. (it's been posted on XDA)..Deal breaker for me, I need my corporate email to work.

    3. the buttons on the phone get laggy and non responsive at times.

4.My battery seems to drain faster with ICS but it could be just me.

I'm going to wait for the official release and see if fix some of these things before they release it.

the Install of ICS was super easy and so was rooting...I flashed my phone and rooted it 4 times trying to get things to work right...lol
