Skyrocket randomly shutting off - againSupport

I had my 1st Skyrocket for almost 2 weeks when I began getting random shutdowns. Sometimes I would have to pull the battery to get it to respond again & other times I would be able to get it to turn back on by pressing the power button for about 30sec. I took the phone back to the At&t shop where they were baffled but replaced the battery because that was the only issue they knew of. After a day or so, it began shutting off again. I returned to the store where they replaced the phone.

I have now had my 2nd phone for 2 days and it randomly shut down again this a.m. I love this phone but I am leary of keeping it in light of these issues and from the problems I have read from other owners on this forum.

Has anyone had any luck in solving this issue? ...Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated!

...btw, the battery is charging/draining normally and I have only used the charger that came with the phone.

    Are you running any taskkillers?

    Not a single one.

OK, I am not a Skyrocket owner, so I can only offer general Android help:(. You could try a factory reset to clear up issues. This sometimes helps with issues like this. This will wipe out everything on your phone, so you will want to back up your photos, messages, and contacts first. You may want to wait a little bit though as some users familiar with your phone may have ideas but haven't checked in yet on the forums. Good luck:)

Thanks! I have already tried the factory reset, but it didn't help. I spent some time chatting with a tech from Samsung this a.m. & he told me the same thing, although when I tried to explain that it didn't work the response I got was "I'm sorry you are experiencing problems." I may be heading back to the At&t store & exchanging once again...this time for the iphone 4s. ....but I do appreciate the help!

Yeah, best I've found is exchanging it. If it is for a 4S, so be it. I'll always recommend that you get the best phone for you. Good luck and sorry I couldn't solve your problem.

Thanks again for the advice :) I am still debating on whether or not to go for another skyrocket (they say the 3rd time's a charm) or the 4s. Either way, thanks again :D

Does the phone just shut off during usage?

I have noticed that the power button is extremely sensitive, when its in my pocket it has occasionally shut down. I just try to keep it in a pocket of its own.

It varies. No, it does not shut off during usage. I thought about the power button thing also, but I can use the phone, set it down & come back to it and it's off. No apparent reason. A couple of times it has been ringing & I just get a black screen when I go to answer & can't get to the call.

Even after a factory restore & no apps added it has done this. I am wondering if the ics update will solve the issue. Here's hoping.

I believe I may have found the reason for the random shut off problem - a loose battery. A friend commented that maybe it was loose when I was telling him about it. I went home, took the battery out, jammed a piece of paper between the battery & the phone....not one shutdown since (that was last Sunday). I hope it wasn't coincidence & the problem is actually solved. It's one fix I can live with :) ...thanks for all the help!!

Hmmm...have you ever washed it? Has rain or water/moisture gotten inside?

I hope that is a permanent solution for you.:) Kinda wish something like this would have been discovered before they went to mass production though.

my skyrocket does this when im trying to install an app frpm the market, it'll download the app, then it'll say "installing" - if i let it sit there while its installing, when the 15 screen timer turns the screen off, if i go to hit the power button to check the app install status, the screen wont turn back on.. ive waited up to 30 mins at times trying to get the screen back on... i can never get it back on, so then i have to do a battery pull and that results in a half installed app which i have to clean up off the phone after.

its a real pain in the ass. but when the phone isnt doing that, i absolutely love everything else about the phone.

4rubies did the paper between battery and cover fix the problem? I'm having the same issue.

GTETRO....I thought the paper thing DID fix the problem, but last Sunday I reinstalled the battery saver app (after having done a factory restore & adding apps one by one) & had another random shutdown again. Uninstalled the app & have had no shutdowns since....where I was getting several a day. Kept the paper in the battery area anyway, just in case.

I did seriously consider exchanging the phone for an iphone because of this, but my daughter has one & the screen seems soooooo small now that I've been enjoying my Skyrocket. It has been worth the aggravation to find some kind of solution.

This is the best solution I have found....hope it works for you!!!

It was the "Easy Battery Saver" app that seemed to cause conflict.

Many folks swear by battery saving apps, but I think they do more harm than good in most cases.

Keep us up to date. I used juice defender. I have do a factory restore and am slowly reinstalling aps. I too am in love with this phones big screen.

Right now, I'm not using any battery saving or task killing apps. I just use the task manager that came on the phone to keep an eye on running apps & I'm pleased with my battery life (a day with moderate to semi-heavy use & almost two days with minimal use). Maybe I should be getting better battery life, but I'm happy with the trade-off. I love my skyrocket!

Since 1mar no problems. Installed juice defender yesterday and got a shut down today. I installed it to see if it helps

Same here. No shutdowns for a couple of weeks without any battery saver, installed juice defender & two days later, two shutdowns. No more battery savers for me :)

Well I saw some replies here and all I could think about is, why the heck people are so confident when posting their 'solutions' ? Damn. Is not about battery or programs. This 'randomly shutdown & infinite reboots' is a hardware problem. Actually, it is the power button. It is kinda sticky. I have experienced this problem these days on my Skyrocket and is so frustrating.
