I'm with Orange as well. I've had the same issues, with texts not always sending straight away, takes a few gos before it sends successfully. The phone signal is generally fine though.

Thanks for that info :) especially as you're on the same network - Like you say they do seem to send eventually so it's not the worst issue I know but it is annoying, calls and texts are really a priority even with a phone like this.

Sorry I couldn't provide a solution, but yeah I have had these issues for about 4-5 weeks now.

Have you got a new SIM card yet? If not get one, and I bet your issues go away.

Not as yet, as soon as I answered yes to the question "Have you ported your number in the last 30days" Orange wanted to go down the 'there's an issue with T-Mobile ported numbers' route - As I still have the failures on this temp Orange number I guess that theory is now out the window, so I'll try again to get them to send me one.

Hey that's ok, like I said it's good to have confirmation it's not just me having the issue.

So does it seem this issue is mostly happening to Orange Desire users ?

Had a full weekend without a single issue, returned to work and the issue almost immediately returned.

Obviously you might think it's an issue with reception there but I literally work less than 5 minutes away and in a post code that is 1 digit different. Orange have confirmed it's exactly the same transmitter and is 0.9 miles away from it with very high coverage.

Orange are sending out a new sim but in the meantime I tested the existing one in another phone and it only failed once to send a text message. I really do think it's just a case of how the HTC is working on Orange in my location when there is heavy congestion on the network.

I've also noticed that many calls to my mobile are routed direct to my voicemail without my phone even registering.

This will happen when you are on 2G and using Orange for data. You cant do both on 2G, only on 3G.

I'd kinda thought that might be the issue with the missed calls, even though I'm in a 3g (H) area with 3g or H displayed on my phone or wifi connected it must for some reason be dropping to 2G in the background.

Going to try it with WCDMA only set tmrw and see if that removes the issue.

i have this issue and i'm with tmobile. i don't think it's a network thing but more phone in my opinion. the not sending (at first) is not a big issue as it does eventually send.

however, i've experience quite a few times now (3-5 times) where i'm sendng a message (on default app or handcent) and say i do something like press the back button or homescreen whilst it's sending, i get a 'force close' error and then all my text messages are wiped out!

i'm pretty sure i wasn't running anything intensive or had lots of background apps (and even then, sending a text message shouldn't crash and delete texts just like that). it's become slightly worrying now and i'm using a sms backup scheduler but still..

i hope froyo and htc's update fixes things.

I also had this issue when I got my desire a few days ago.

It was only happening with certain numbers, and even then, only every few texts or so.

I called Orange who told me that it can happen when the phone is first connected to the network and the new sim card is connecting itself and "settling in". They advised me to take the battery and sim card out for a a good 10-15 minutes then boot up again. This has seen a massive improvement and over the weekend with it only happening once or twice a day. And it hasn't happened at all today actually.

I am tempted to debrand my phone to see if that helps further and to get rid of that Orange crap.

As for the +44 vs 07 thing, I've got a mixture in my contacts list and it was happening on both.

Can't say I've tested it in terms of location issues as I've not really moved too far from my flat in Aberdeen for a while but I will be going home to Edinburgh this week so can see if it keeps happening there.

Hope thats of some help to someone.

Will try taking out the SIM and battery later. I seem to be getting this problem too and it's very annoying. Almost every other text is affected. Originally, thought that only long (multipart) texts were effected. Then, even shorter multipart texts ie those less than three linked texts were affected. I have Handcent installed and it seems to tell me the texts fail rather frequently. The annoying thing is, my friends often get multiple fragmented text messages with each failed attempt. Oh well. I do miss Blackberry messaging experience...

As I mentioned a colleague at work has the same phone as me and is on the Orange network, he also has a work phone again on Orange. Today he started getting missed calls straight to voicemail and failed text messages on both his work phone and his Desire - so immediately I tested mine and I had the same issue.

I had my phone set to WCDMA only so am I right in thinking that makes the phone only connect on a 3G signal therefore negating the possibility that it's a 2G signal issue stopping the calls ?

In light of the above this definately makes it likely a network issue in my case ? Either something in my workplace or something Orange are doing to make this happen ?

    OK bit more info lol:

Both of us turned our phones to GSM only (not using any data as this obviously would stop the calls) and calls and texts work perfectly. As soon as we both switch back to WCDMA we both start getting missed calls and failed SMS randomly - but we've switched back and forth and it definately works fine on GSM followed by a return of the problem when back onto 3G.

Going to leave the phone on GSM only for the next few days and see if WCMDA really is the culprit.

I get this (O2 uk) too. It fails after retry too. I find myself putting it into and out of airplane mode to rectify the issue.

Tef: Sounds EXACTLY like the issue that I had with Orange. As I said earlier it was down to Orange losing a 3G mast - I had a hard time getting them to admit it though!

    Thanks for the info ;)

I've spoken to Orange several times and they keep saying there are no network issues in my area ... will keep trying though :(

Now I know it's happening to two of us in the same location it makes things a bit easier to argue with them.

The problem is if they HAVE had a signal degredation through no fault of yours then you are entitled to end your contract with no pentalties (its in the small print) - you keep the handset and may leave the network - straight cancellation or PAC transfer. Its no wonder its hard to get them to admit fault and frankly the CS droids won't even know if there is a problem. I only started getting somewhere after I wrote to them!

I agree, writing to them will be my next step I think. Thanks again for your advice, it's really helped.

I'm having the exact same problems as you Jap and I live in Layton area of Blackpool. Are you still with Orange? What procedure did you follow (feel free to PM me).

    Im getting this issue too.
    Am with Orange also.

I not noticed if it happens when im on 2G or not.
Sometimes it takes 4 or 5 retries before it gets sent.
