My local store had their demo, and the guy was nice enough to let me spend about 20 minutes messing around with it just to get a feel for it.
I am definitely going to pick this phone up on Sunday. And I'll even be nice enough to get it from this store and not bestbuy or wherever since this guy gave me a break.
The body is just as described very lightweight, but the backing is very nice and definitely metallic. the 4 buttons were all easy to use and I never accidentally hit them during my trial. The Home button does take you to center home screen.
The touch screen itself was very responsive, it had the setting for the minivibrate when pressed and that was especially nice while typing.
The UI itself was plenty responsive, never stuttered and I was opening and closing stuff left and right. Played videos (h264!) surfed using wifi and just messed around alot.
Typing on the keyboard in landscape was perfect for me. I have fairly large hands and thick fingers and my AT&T Fuze is sometimes hard to use with its smaller raised buttons. I had no issues and barely made mistakes. I even tried the handwriting mode, but I think that would actually go much slower than anything else. I did not try swype. And another confirmation about NO MICROPHONE BUTTON for speech to text...so I dont know what is up with that and it has me worried.
The screen was beautiful...the guy even walked outside with me. Being your typical AT&T store guy he knew everything about the iphone and nothing about this but even he was impressed with how nice the screen looked even outside.
I took some pictures inside the store and outside all were definitely nice looking on the screen, but without being able to load them on a comp at home it's hard to tell how good the quality really is, but I saw no lighting issues even inside the store which was decently, but not crazily lit.
Playing movies and taking movies were as expected as well. very nice quality.
In the end I think we have a winner and I'll be picking mine up on Sunday.
