So I'm gonna ask - Vanilla Lockscreen...what's the big deal?

With different threads and many questions about the Vanilla Lockscreen, I just have to know: What is the big deal? I have looked and not found anything to lead me to an answer, so I turn to the forum.

I have seen some captures and yes, it looks kind of slick. But what does it do differently than the lockscreen I have now (stock)? Does it do the dishes or wash the car?

I'm not even sure it can be used with Fresh Toast 2.1, but I still would like to know why this lockscreen is so great that has excited so many.

I personally HATE the look/ action of the stock sense lockscreen. It sucks. I used to have the vanilla for a while when I was running 2.0d, and now I really miss it. I like the look, and the sideways swipe to unlock was better too.

So why don't you flash it again? Other than open with a sideways swipe and a different look, what does it do?

I liked the sense lock as it gave me the option to have a different wallpaper, it looked really slick sliding it to unlock.

BUt I really went with vanilla to have something I haven't had before, AND because with the rom I use...pressing home twice doesn't unlock the phone (damn htc for that). I always had issues with pocket unlocks.

Fresh 2.1.1 doesn't work b/c it isn't deodexed. I really think this rom is the best I have tried, so I gotta deal with it! I haven't had an audio loss issue yet, I have a ton of free space with like 40 apps already, and it is super quick and stable. Not worth the swap for me right now.

    EDIT>
It has a silent feature in the lockscreen also

I do like that I can use a wallpaper on the Sense lock screen. Random unlocks have not been a problem. Maybe the case I use helps with that. Which ROM do you have?

OK, I see now (said the blind man to his deaf daughter as he picked up his hammer and saw). It may not work with Fresh Toast 2.1 then either. And I gave up on 2.1.2, too many quirks and fixes. Never tried 2.1.1 though.

I flashed toast and couldn't get it to stabilize... I really wanted to run it, but 2.1.1 is great for me....

I'm using aloysius and it is great so far. Using the overclocked version and everything just feels zippy. Only drawback is I saty around 40 mbs of memory after clearing cache.

I use a bodyglove and carry it in my pocket, for a while I had no issues but then it got so bad for some reason that I had to use the "connect the dots" screen which was just a PITA, so I like not having to worry about it

It took a couple of days for FT to stabilize for me. I had been messing around with it and tweaking it quite a bit, so when I finally left it alone things went great. So I'm not switching at this point to 2.1.2 just for a lockscreen. But I didn't know what I was missing with this awesome Vanilla Lockscreen people are talking about and my curiosity got to me. :)

Yeah, I got it setup, and then had FC's with my people app, rebooted and it did the 19mhz thing. I had to pull the batt and restore it to 2.1.1. I didn't want such a high maintenance rom. I like stability.

For some reason on reboot, it would drop the o'clock widget to 19mhz, and stay there, even when more was demanded of it, and it was set to I think 240something on the low end, I can't remember the exact #. But it pi$$ed me off, and I nandroided back.

And I know about 2.1.2, but I have like 75mb free with 2.1.1, and it is super quick. I hear that you lose all that with 2.1.2, but it is better for customizing, because it has been deodexed. The custom themes aren't as big a deal to me as the speed/ stability of this rom.

I have Fresh 2.1.2 and the vanilla lockscreen. I'm not sure why so many are having trouble you just download the zip and flash via recovery. I also have not had any trouble with low space or it being slow. I have over 80mb free and that is with a bunch of apps and stuff installed. The biggest reason I rooted and have the vanilla lockscreen though is to load a Buckeyes theme on top of the lockscreen.

I have 60 apps on it right now besides all that come with 2.1.1. And 75 mb still free. Pretty amazing, IMO. I could prob drop about half of them, but it runs good, and I'm happy, so for now 2.1.1 is good for me;)

And, I know how to flash the themes, and lockscreens and all that, but thanks.:D

I understand completely. If your phone is working good and your happy with it there's no need to do something that may screw it up. I'm not trying to convince anyone of using Fresh 2.1.2 just letting everyone know I am happy with it and why I chose it. :D I hear you about the apps too. I don't use most of them but you gotta leave them on there for that 1 time you may possibly use it.

You actually have me thinking about it, though TBH. LOL. I got mad at fresh toast, when I flashed it, so I decided to stick with what I have, but I may change, and soon. That is why we root, anyway, right?:)

Which ROM are you running now :) ?

Last I remember you were moving either from Fresh to DC or from DC to Fresh. Can't remember where you left off.

Anyways, the vanilla lockscreen will only work with a ROM that has been deodexd. I believe the newest version of DC is deodexd and you may be able to use the vanilla lockscreen. I don't run DC so I cannot confirm for sure.

just got my phone a few days ago. flashed fresh 2.1.2. vanilla lock screen works great and i loved it. being able to silence the phone easily from the lock screen was great for work. but wanted to OC so i flashed fresh toast. vanilla lock doesn't work but my battery is in god mode so it's an even trade.

How is that possible? I have 2.1.2 installed with NOTHING else, no added apps yet and stock lockscreen and I only have 75mb free...

Fresh 2.1.2 is the first ROM I installed but haven't had any problems with space. I have been running this for a while now with even more apps installed and I still have 67 MB free. Do you have Apps2Sd working? How much space is everyone else seeing that is running 2.1.2?

i only have about 50mb or so of free space left. on a fresh install of fresh 2.1.2, i had 70mb or so but after installing a few apps i was left with around 60 then for some reason it dwindled down to 50. even if i clear my web cache, i only get about 50. i dont know what is depleting my internal memory.
