I've been following the rumours with interest. I had planned to get the Desire (my first Android phone) when my current contract comes up for renewal in 2 weeks. I love the Sense UI (my wife's got the legend) which stopped me from going to the Galaxy S, and now the rumours about the Desire HD are getting stronger there's only 1 phone I want.

I'm curious though, about who else would get this phone, reading various forums and it seems that current Desire owners don't think the spec warrants them upgrading, and others that the supposed 4.3 inch screen makes the phone too big.....but is that just sour grapes because another 'flagship' HTC is on the way?

So, will you be getting this phone (if it appears and with the rumoured spec), what will you be upgrading from, and why do you want this one?

Not a scientific poll by any means...just a bit of fun

i bought the htc desire outright even tho i am currently in contract. Never been happier with a phone then i am with this right now. now some of the stuff on the desire hd sound nice but ive just got the desire set and working how i want it to and dont fancy the hassle of moving to another phone. Thing we have to remember is that there will always be one better, law of the world. If your happy with the desire stick with it, if new to android then go for the HD version.

Nope, got a Desire a couple of months back. If I were to upgrade again soon, it would need to be a pretty big upgrade hardware-wise.

Same here. The only benefit the HD offers over what I have, other than the better camera which doesn't bother me, is the bigger screen and I think 4.3 inches is going to be too big for my pockets. In any case, I prefer the look of the current Desire to the bloated iPhone look of the HD.

Everyone keeps saying that the Desire HD offers nothing extra but the big screen and extra camera. However some leaks have it using the next gen snapdragon which is 45NM with an upgraded GPU. So although it's the same clock-speed you get better performance and lower power drain.

So yeah I'm waiting to see if that's official before I decide between it and the Galaxy S, if it's a 1st gen snapdragon then I'm going for the Galaxy S, 2nd gen and I have to decide.

Also pretty much everyone who I have talked to who has owned an EVO says it is very pocketable. HTC did a great job with maximising screen size without bloating out the size too much with both phones.

To everyone who keeps saying 4.3" is too big: you know it's not that much bigger than 3.7" right? .6 of an inch is only 1.5cm, hardly an increase at all. And that 1.5cm increase is the increase in diagonal screen size, not left to right.

Exactly, go out to the carphone warehouse or whatever and look at a HTC HD2 it's the same screen size and is not the hulking monstrosity people make out. It looks easily pocket-able.

From the looks of it, i don't think the HD is going to get a newer snapdragon, see here. But anyhow, their coming soon press conference will clear us of our doubt.

    It looks good.

On side note, when will 1080P video recording come out for any smart phone?

    When 720p gets sorted. :p

Besides, have you seen the quality of a 720p video shot on a smartphone? Its nothing to write home about and is due to the lens quality.

Its funny how places like argos and currys advertise cameras as "12mp all for

Soooo true... MP don't mean s**t.

The HD looks good, the extra screen size would also make typing a bit easier which is nice. It would be an expensive upgrade though and really wouldn't be worth the money IMO.

you are right, the mp number is nothing.
    The lens quality matters.

I have a Galaxy S and am rapidly losing patience with the software issues and Samsung's lack of support.

I didn't go for the original Desire as tbh I find it a bit ugly. The EVO I like so fingers crossed the Desire HD will be similar.

If this lives up to my expectations I think the Galaxy S will be on Ebay.

I'd like to have one.....if they ever release a North American 3G version.
Don't think I can get by with just EDGE and Wi-Fi.

At east Nokia got it right with their recent announcement that all of their new phones will have penta-band 3G.

I have a Desire and already have the HD on order. The larger screen doesn't impress me as much as the other changes: improved standby/talk time (even though it has a smaller battery capacity), double flash, 802.11n wifi, better HSDPA/HSUPA speeds, and new HTC Sense features.

Much more internal memory is the best new feature for me though. I'm always running out of space on my Desire, even when I transfer the apps I can to SD card... A lot of the apps I use don't have the 'move to SD' feature enabled yet so I have to constantly remove apps to install others...
