Ok people, I have found a way to extend your battery life enormously, to the extent that it is what it was advertised by Sony. Some of you guys may know that I have helped on a lot of other minor issues when the x10 first came out so am not lying on this.

In the battery life thread, I have mentioned that last week, my battery was amazingly great where overnight, it only reduced 3-5% of the battery and a good days use only drained about 30-40% of the battery. I did not know how this happened but I have finally found out now after testing it 3 times.

    ------------------------------------------------

    My solution:
I turned off my phone, then turn it back on, used tasks killer right away because the phone when turned on, activates a lot of apps and then i killed all apps except my beautiful widgets and settings. And that is it, battery was amazing and you can use your apps as normal and battery life was as good as mentioned above.

Now, the problem that kills the battery where you will have to restart your phone again for the good battery life: When downloading a new app or updating from the market, the battery became horrendous again. When I did this, the battery overnight drained 25-30% and a days use drained over 60%.

But all I did was restart my phone after installing a new app or updating and did what I mentioned above and the battery was back to it's amazing self.

I have tested this 3 times and it works for me. It is as simple as turning off your phone and back on again so go and try it to see if it works for you.

(I use the free version of advanced task killer)

Please post a message here after testing to tell other people whether it worked for you or not.

    Thanks

I use a program called ES Task Manager, It gives you options to kill all tasks at once with the option to select which programs you would like to exclude, it also has the option to remove certain icons from view, I removed all the Moxier icons from view, cleans it up nicely, on top of that it has a nice desktop widget that shows ram usage and how many current apps running, and all you do is just tap it and it kills all apps that are not excluded. I have used several of these apps and this is by far the best one, and there is also the ES File Manager to which has tons of features, you can view you phone files or add an FTP, LAN, view Bluetooth devices for storage and more with nice 3D icons and animated backgrounds on it. The company name Estrongs or you can go to there web page at http://www.estrongs.com

Nice idea, but doesn't work for me. I've got into turning my phone off, then on once per day for a couple of weeks now, each time immediately killing everything (can't see how to put Beautiful Widgets on 'ignore' as it never appears on the running programs list!).

Once everything is shut down, Advanced Task Killer states approximately 190M free memory. However, as the day goes on, each time I kill everything, using that function in Auto Task Killer, that number keeps reducing. Eventually, it's nearer 100M. However, Auto Task Killer is not showing any programd running!

Battery still crap. Even tried all day on lowest screen brightness instead of auto. No difference!

the battery has gotten worse for me over time as well. For example, today I uplugged my phone around 10:00am local time. Currently it is 5:49pm and I'm at 45%. It's to the point where I am considering getting rid of the phone unless I can figure out what is causing this. Keep in mind I am using Juicedefender and it doesn't help at all. I also hate how if I check my phone a hour later there are a bunch of apps that are opened that I didn't open. For example Moxier mail and voice recorder always always open. I also start with roughly 145 mb free off of a fresh restart

On other forums a lot of people are reporting that JuiceDefender actually worsens their battery performance, because it's checking things so often. Maybe it all depends on how you use your phone, but it might be worth disabling JuiceDefender and then try the "turn off and on then kill everything" idea.

I can confirm that juice defender actually worsens battery life.

I can get 2-3 days with moderate use.

I've got task killer and nice wiget for it that lets you kill all tasks (apart from ignored ones) from your home screen with one touch. I hit that every now and again.

I only turn on wifi, 3g, gps when I need it and keep my screen brightness down low with quick settings app.

I let my battery run down a few times.

Some games hammer the battery (bonsai blast, robo defence) but gameboid doesn't seem to.

At first my phone also had a very bad battery life. I left it unplugged at night, around 5 hours, with no data sync done at all, I lost 30%. Then, I read that by draining the battery till the phone died, it could fix the issue. I tried that and it works for me. Now, I only lost 1 -2 % if I leave it unplugged at night, and I can use my phone 1.5 to 2 days without charging.

    Hi All,

i faced the same battery issues initially and then i just turned off the Wifi and the 3g on my phone and the battery is now lasting for more than 10 hours.
i occasionally use 3g and wifi and it still gives me 11 hours.

Has anyone tried messing around with the Synchronisation settings? I think there options in there that always keep contacts, calendar and mail synched continuously?

I turned these off (because you can synch manually) on my GF's phone, along with using taskpanel and Y5 battery saver and hers last for days as well.

The above worked great for me also, my x10 is usually on charge after running out of power about 2 hours ago but still have 52% battery left. I just turn the handset off once a day and when powered back on, launch Taskiller and kill all apps, works a treat, and cheers to sleepless for the tip!!!

I'm getting 10 hours a day with moderate use. Piece of trash is going in the bin and I'm going back to Nokia!

Firstly thanks to Jonnie for the info - will give it a go.

Now then can anyone help me please??

I also have battery drain problems - a day and a recharge needed although I have downloaded Juice defender which does increase the battery life somewhat (or so it says) and also Start up auditor which allows applications to be switched off or disabled by the user.

My issue is this - checking what has been using the battery - the main drain appears to be the camera - and I haven't used it!! Can anyone tell me how to turn off the camera so as it is not draining the battery even though I am not using it or the phone is lying in standby mode. In order of usage I am currently getting 38% for the camera and 30% each for cell standby and phone idle. I haven't made many calls in the past couple of days so that is just 2%.

I feel if I can disable the camera (I have switched it off and back on) my usage would be considerably better.

Any help appeciated as this is driving me mad but I love the X10.

Thanks to all who take the time to post on this forum - it really opens eyes as to the issues that SE don't seem able, willing or capable of advising the problems - call centres are OK but knowledgable staff are another thing.

    Thanks in advance

    Billy

for people with terribly low battery life, have you fully discharged and recharged the battery like 5 times?? i read from a post that if you let the battery die completely and recharge it 4-5 times that the battery life improves. i was very skeptical at first and the first few times i did it, i didn't see much improvement.
but magically, after doing this 5 times, the battery life of my x10 improved dramatically. i was getting used to checking the battery life on x10's status page as often as every half an hour and now i don't even bother.
i hope this helps some of you, good luck!!

Seriously did SE actually do any real world testing to get the "415-425 hours" of standby time or did they just pull those numbers out of their ass (ie theoretical battery capacity)? I'm not expecting it to last "17 days" but if it's taking this much effort to just squeeze barely 2 days worth of usage it seems a bit ridiculous. I used get 5~6 days easy with my old k530 (same usage as with X10, except with the occasional wifi browsing now) and that's only specified to go "395 hours".

    Hows it going Billy,

Firstly, ensure that you have discharged the battery 5-6 times fully. Get rid of juice defender, did nothing but ate my battery time anyway, its not needed in my opinion. To check whats been using your battery, go to settings>about phone>battery use and this will tell you whats been eating at your battery life. Ensure you have some sort of task killer app installed, im using Taskiller and have it set to kill apps when screen is black, which works great, I find this task killer app the best. As I stated above, I switch my phone off once a day, usually early enough in the morning, switch back on and launch Taskiller and then kill all apps and this prolongs the battery life considerably for me anyway!!!!

And thanks should go to SLEEPLESS who found this trick to prolong battery life, I just tried it and shared my findings with the rest of you.:D:D

After a moderate days use with wifi, 3g, timescape, etc I lost only 20% now.
