[Solved] Screen flicker -> Network loss -> Battery "death"Support

    Hi guys

Ny Note has started acting up lately:

The battery can start out at someting like 50% when this happens.
    1) The screen starts to flicker
    2) Shortly(something like 10s) followed by complete network loss.
    3) Network comes back and then more flickering and so on(GOTO 1;)).

This repeats around three time and then the phone dies from low battery.

If I re-start the phone it will say it is low on battery and die again. But as soon as I start charging it, it starts charging from 50%.

Here is a screenshot from the last time it happend:

*EDIT* Apparently: due to the internet beeing filled with spammers, I'm not allowed to add external stuff like images to a post. Oh well.

The drop at the end is the issue happening and the last part of the diagram is the charging starting where it was before as I plugged it in the charger.

Anyone else with this problem or is it just me activating the "Destroy everythig you touch"-field again?

*Edit* Forgot to state my version: Samsung GT-N7000 with Android 4.0.4

*Edit* [Solved] I took out the battery and noticed it did not fit as snugly as it used to. After looking it over it became rater obvious that it had a nice swelling going on. So I'm guessing that it was just getting old and cramming juice out of it(like in the case of browsing with both screen on, white page backgrounds and network activity) caused it to cross the limit of what it could actually dish out.

So... are there any replacement batteries you can recommend besides the original ones? Mabe something of the same size with more than 2500 mAh?

Hey, I'm new here but I have also had a few screen flicker issues, just thought I'd stay tuned and see what comes up. Also if I leave a service area, the service will not reconnect without a restart. Battery seems fine on mine.

Come to think of it, maybe it's an ICS bug instead of a hardware problem. I only noticed it after updating and I found it was worse when using live wallpapers.

It still happens once in awhile, but not nearly as frequently after I switched to a static wallpaper.

I experience EXACTLY the same as gronnbj with my N7000, but it started only a couple of days ago. While my update to 4.0.4 (stock) is many weeks ago. So the 4.0.4 alone is not the only trigger.

After upgrading to ICS, you can sometimes get these kinds of glitches....

Has anyone tried a Factory reset yet? Usually helps. I back up my data using KIES AND my SD card at least once a week just in case things like this happen.

I see 6 subscribers to this thread.

One of you, please back up your data, then call " *2767*3855# ", restore from backup and let me know if it keeps happening.

Ok I haven't learned what a factory reset is. I have done a restore off Kies, but could you please give me a link or a few details on the difference on a factory reset?
I was thinking about doing that as apps that are un installed typically seem to leave files behind.

Well, a Factory Reset is a complete wipe of the data you've added to your phone. So Apps, Contacts, Media, etc that were added to the phone are removed and the phone is basically back to the state it was when you first go it out of the box, except for 2 things:

    1) it keeps any firmware upgrades you've performed
    2) It remembers your Network settings (IP address, Routers and their passwords, Bluetooth connections, etc)

Using Kies, you can back up your Contacts, Media, Scheduler (Calendar) etc., then wipe the phone and use kies to restore most of your user data

I'm not sure whether you're asking me the differences between the different resets, but since it ALWAYS comes up, here it is:

HARD RESET - is a Factory Wipe using the HARD buttons on the phone (Turn the phone off. Press and hold Volume up and down and power at the same till Samsung appears on the screen and let go)

SOFT RESET - is a Factory Wipe using the "Factory reset" in the Menu or dialing " *2767*3855# " using the Dial Pad

I think I might do one before I go for jelly bean. Just to purge all the junk folders and stuff.

So basically: if your battery takes on a more "round" quality, this problem may occurr. (see editedo riginal post)

Hi, I am experiencing the exact same issues as gronnbj described. I googled it to see if anyoe else have this problem and it seems I'm not the only one.

I bought my Galaxy Note at the end of December 2011. So it is close to a year old now.

The problem has gotten worse today and it would just switch off even at 50% battery. Previously it happened at 20% or lower. If I dont connect to a charger immediately, it would blink out without warning. The 50% battery closure happened while I was Facebooking (on wifi) for about half an hour after I took it off the charger and it was at full battery capacity.

Anyone know whether it is a battery issue? Has anyone tried buying a new battery?

I just ordered the 3060mAh batteries off an American seller off ebay. I'll post a review somewhere on the note section when I get them. Should be a noticeable improvement over 2500 stock battery.

No SW or other change, simply ordered 3050mAh battery ("Gold ..."), which stopped the problem immediately.

I agree with what you are saying. My Note is exactly 1yr & 6days old. I have started experiencing the same problem like you have mentioned below for the past 1week or so. Though my phone has slipped twice but before this there was nothing major. Few days back when i also took out the batter like any gadget freak. I noticed a nice bulge in the battery & the battery does not sit as comfortably as it used to.
So i am planning on buying a new battery & then shall reply. For those who think its related to software, NADA!! Software has nothing to do with this. Its a magnetic interference which is causing the Crystals to get excited & causing the flicker. Try bringing in a magnet close to your TV/LCD Screen you will experience the same effects. :smokingsomb:

I have the same problem and exactly bought it a year back.
Recently I have downloaded CK Zombies 2 game and played extensively.
I am not sure this is the root cause of the issue.
Inspite of 100% battery charge, I could play only for few minutes and then screen flickers and switch off immediately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried replacing the battery with a new one?

(Bought GT-N7000 on the very first day of release). Similar problem since 2 - 3 days.

Looked at the battery, seemed like everything's fine with it. Maybe slight bulge but not sure if that was unusual in anyway, could have gone unnoticed on the first day of purchase too.

Seemed like a hardware thingy. So,
    - I cleaned the connectors (on both, the phone and battery)
    - Removed the Stylus, (coz I was not sure if the Stylus has any magnetic substance)
    - Restarted the phone.
    Bingo!! So far all good.

Another observation, my phone used to do this particularly on a RESTART. Screen flickered, phone died and battery drained. So,
    - I connected the phone to my charger and tried to restart.
    Bingo!! That worked too..

Now I'm not sure how long will this issue pertain. In all probability, its a battery (I hope not the memory) issue. I'll watch out for a few days.. then sell it off.. and buy Note 2 maybe..

Just want to say a massive thank you for this thread and the one linked to just above. My Note's flickering and giving me crazy battery stats so ordering a new battery today. Thank god it isn't a Jelly Bean issue!

    Thanks all.
