    Ahoy fellow droids,

Something in my G1 is eating my megabytes by downloading/uploading all the time (except when I force disconnect it with APNdroid). I tried uninstalling the last installed applications but it didn't work. It's not the Google account sync either. Is it the OS itself? As there's no internet monitor or task manager, I cannot track the application that uses my precious band and this is truly annoying.

    Thanks for the help..

Read this thread Safe Boot Mode this will stop the default loading of any apps that are started in the background during normal power on ...

This should tell you if you have OS problem ...

also while in safe mode ... Run the app Called "Netmeter" this app will give you a view of cell, wifi, & cpu ... also pressing 'menu' you can select and see/monitor what tasks are running

see nothing of probable cause .... ???? then you can check each app you downloaded by using the OS's 'system settings|applications|manage applications' ... long-press each app ... check to see if Launch by default is set ... clear it if it is ... make a note of the app ... continue until you have checked each of your downloaded apps (not apps that come on the phone) ... now go back to each app (one at a time) and start app ...
monitor it to see what effect it has on net traffic ... you should be able to track in bad actor programs...

Hopefully you have made sure that wifi, gps, and 3g are turned off !!

good luck ... report back if you find a bad program ...

    Thanks a lot justjimjpc.

I have booted in the Safe Mode and the phone went on downloading almost non-stop.

    Now I am totally puzzled.

Power Off ... Take battery Out ... Wait at least 2 minutes ... then do another Safe Boot ...

You will always have some net traffic ... otherwise you could not use the phone at all ...

What Icon do you have in your Notification Bar at the top of the Screen ?
    3G, E (for Edge), G (for gprs) ?

I don't think that "some net traffic" is not as much as 50 mbs in a few hours. It took me another 2.6 mbs while i was using Netmeter.

I suspect the process "android.process.media" to be the cause. Because it was working at a 5-10% cpu when I was connected and it stopped when I blocked the connection. But I'm not sure at all.

    I have that E icon.

That is very small data //// what data plan did you subscribe to ?

OK with "E" you did not turn off "EDGE" ...
Turn off "Edge" by performing following :
    Menu|System Settings|Wireless Controls|Mobile Networks|
then check 'Use only 2G Networks"

    =============================================
This Will create a shortcut on the desktop to Stop all Data

    5. Press "Testing"

The testing shortcut will appear on your desktop

Thanks very much ... I was close but still too far ...

I renamed the shortcut to "StopData" so I will remember what it does..

I'm not using it with T-mobile, and mobile internet prices are pretty high here. I have 1 gb for a month and don't want to upgrade... I thought Android would give me power to control things like this. And I still can't see a reason for this phone to use the connection this much even if I disable all the synchronization.

    Anyway, thanks for your help..
