I know these questions are really elementary, but...
    1. In my Task Manager, it shows for RAM 214 MB/325MB. Why is so much memory already used when I have so little extra on the phone? Does the pre-loaded stuff and OS take up that much space?
Confession: I have only downloaded 4 apps so far (Google Maps, Handcent, SwiftKey, Smart Keyboard Pro) and 1 widget (Digital Clock Widget) plus I have 4 ringtones and 1 song. Obviously, I am not a superuser.

    2. How can I tell if my apps are saved on my sd card or on my internal drive?

    3. If on my internal drive, how do I move them to the sd card?

    Thanks!

    1. Yeah you're going to see a minimum of 175-180 of the memory used just by as you call it the OS et al; thats just how it is.
    2. On 2.1 apps do save to your internal storage. Some do save things on your sdcard like games saves or game data. Those gameloft games are like 100mb+ downloads and that goes to your sdcard. But the actual root/base folder will be on the internal
    3. Cannot on 2.1

thanks for the info saps! I'm new to this also (just got my phone a week ago.) I have questions relating to memory storage too (sorry if this is in the wrong thread or category I'm also a new to the forums.) so here are my questions:

    1. are all pictures you take with the camera on the phone automatically saved to the external sd card? or do they go on the internal memory? if not how do i transfer them to the sd card?

    2. I guess this relates to the above question. I learned how to transfer files from my computer to the phone, using the usb cable the phone comes with, but which folder should I be putting the files into to know it's on the sd card?
(the files i transferred were music, pictures, and videos)

    hopefully that made sense...

    thanks!

    1. Yes by default they are stored on sdcard
    2. Your wording in unclear but I think I get what you're asking. I think you're saying do I need to make special folders called music, pictures videos so the SF knows? That answer is no. The respect music player, gallery and video player will open with any appropriate file type. That is if you put a bunch of avi's and/or mpeg4's on your sdcard even in different folders they will all show up in video player. mp3's and what not show up in music player. In your Gallery you will find folders which match any folders you make and name. Its a pretty above average job of self sorting

I just posted a thread on this same topic of discussion, so since saps mostly answered it my next question would be, if the pics and videos are stored on the sd card by default, why can't i find them on the sd card when it is connected to my pc via usb, and if they are stored internally how can i get them to my pc?

I am finally understanding what the big to-do is about froyo! WHY on God's green earth would they make it so you can't move your files from your phone memory to your sd card? dumb.

Sorry if i am double-posting the same question.....

Your pictures are in DCIM>Camera on your sdcard when you mount it to your PC

I'm fairly new also. When I first connected my phone to my PC it downloaded some pictures from my PC onto my phone, but apparently in INTERNAL memory, not the SD card. When I use the Gallery, I see these pictures, but I can't delete them. I took the SD card off the phone and read it directly on my PC; the pictures are not on the SD card, so they must be in internal memory. With the SD card not in the phone, the Gallery still shows these pictures. I downloaded a file manager and looked at every directory listed in internal memory, but there are no pictures stored in internal memory that I can see. How can I get rid of these pictures? Thanks in advance.

Am I understanding this correctly? The DCIM folder is pretty much the SD card. You can place files in there and take them out without touching the internal memory?
