Some problems and some answersSupport

    1. For all of those who have charging issues, I spoke to Samsung and they stated that the Stratosphere requires a "Samsung" charger and they are not taking part in the standardization regulations for 2013......I guess they would rather lose the sale of a $400 phone so that can sell a $20 charger.

Here are some problems I need help with:
    1. When a call is over, I have to press the end button twice......furthermore, if the screen has timed out I have to press the power button, let the screen come on for 1 second and then go out, press the power button again and then press end --------how do I get around this?

    2. Why does the screen activate for only 1 second when you push the power button ....and then go black again? This only happens when the screen times out during a process or call.

    3. I use ear buds most of the time but when I don't, I am constantly ending the call by my cheek touching the end button.........Any ideas?

i have charged my stratosphere with a number of different chargers and had 0 problems, i find it very hard to believe that samsung would put the 'standard' charger plug on the phone and not meet the standards, there is a flaw in that logic. I have a feeling that they say that simply to reduce their cost.

EDIT: motorola says the same thing in their owners manual about using only their own approved chargers.

Although "canceled" I have a couple comments.

I have noticed that using various other charging cords has yielded various results. If you ask me (and I know no one is :p) it all comes down to the voltage output of the square outlet plug that you use, not the cable itself. The cable itself is a standard mini-usb (or whatever it's called), however the outlet plug that the usb end plugs into is Samsung Strat specific based on the voltage. I have plugged the cable into some other outlet plugs and the phone would either not charge or would charge (seemingly slower but I cannot prove this). So check the voltage prior to charging.

As for the cheek ending call issue, I guess a screen lock app would be useful. I have not searched for one myself yet but I am sure they exist.

One quick comment - I have noticed a great variety of issues while looking through the Stratosphere threads. But I think some people need to realize that this is common with any and all electronic devices. 100 people could have the same device and out of those 100 a certain percentage will experience errors, malfunctions, hardware and software failures, etc.. Now I know this is common knowledge, but there are a few out there who complain that the phone sucks, Samsung sucks, their carrier sucks, etc... because they had whatever problem they had with their phone. People should realize that again, it is common for a few to have these issues and that forums such as these are a great place to find a fix. Just don't blame the phone, the manufacturer, or the carrier for your problem. Have patience and use common sense and chances are you can fix whatever the problem is.

One more thing. If you ever are faced with choice of a brand new device or a refurbished one you might want to consider going with the refurb.. Here is why: When a new phone is manufactured it will rarely go through any type of "checks" right off the line. The manufacturer only checks like 1 out of every 1000 devices or 1 out of every 500 (or whatever) devices that come off the assembly line for errors. Other than that, they are boxed and shipped immediately. This is why you stand a decent chance of getting a damaged or otherwise malfunctioning phone when ordering a brand new one or buying one at a store.

With a refurbished device, they are (by almost all company standards) put through a 101 point check or something very similar to ensure that the device works perfectly before certifying it as "refurbished". So the chances are much better that the device you get will work flawlessly. In addition they are always cheaper too!

**note** to the OP - the only thing directly aimed at you as a reply is the first paragraph about the chargers. Everything else is to a general audience.

To everyone else - I am no expert in the way these things are manufactured. I am just offering my "opinion". And if you have my opinion and a quarter, what do you have? A Quarter! :D

Using only Samsung approved charges is a load of bull. Most cell chargers will work as long as the plug is the same. It's not a 100% guarantee, but it's up there.

As for whether one will work or not, it's not the voltage but the current that matters. USB Micro is standardized at 5V, but the amperage varies, and that is what makes it charge faster or slower.

    You owe me a quarter.

Similarly, I have used both the chargers of LG VX8300 non-smart phones w/o problems. HOWEVER, their cables would not work. I have found that the included Verizon cable and another one I had bought a while back for use with car charger will both work with the VZ and LG wall chargers as well as PC USB ports. The LG cables fail to work on any charger or when plugged into the PC. One does nothing. The other looked like it was charging but actually never advanced the battery charge and would not make the Strat act as USB device. As an engineer, I wonder what they did to the cable. BTW, both those problem cables still properly charge the two LGs (one LG of which is still in use by my wife).

I'm with MeLittleMe on this one.
LG, Samsung, and various car chargers work but rarely do I find a USB cable (other than Samsung's) that works.

Same here. I use the wife's HTC Dinc2 charger and it works but using the USB connected to computer doesn't. I also used an LG Enlighten cord and it worked except for USB to computer.

On a side note, why there is no picture of the Strat for the Strat thread?

I've used a couple of generic no name USB car and house chargers, both have worked fine. Besides the OEM Samsung cable, I've used a Pantech Ease data cable and both of my Nokia Micro USB cables for USB to computer. Both have worked flawlessly with my Strat.

    UPDATE on charging cables:

I bought a 2-pack of cables from meritline for $1.99. Worked fine with my old LG chargers.

I picked up a generic micro USB wall charger (plug+ cord, not plug+usb cord) and while it did charge the phone, the phone was useless while plugged in. Touch screen failed to work (couldn't slide the puzzle piece over), taps did nothing, couldn't move from page to page. Unplug charger and all works fine. If I opened an email app and then replugged the charger, the app kept loading and reloading the email box. Pull plug, back to normal.

A generic car charger works fine. A generic USB cable hooked up to computer doesn't recognize the phone.

Makes me wonder if there is something about how some wall chargers handle the AC that created my wall charge problem above since the car charger worked OK.

Anyone else had anything like this?

Yes, even with the OEM samsung charger my phone's touchscreen is unusable while charging. It is jumpy and doesn't register half the time. I have to unplug it to turn the alarm off.

I did have problems with the phone while charging until I turned off the Dock setting. That cleared it up and now I can use it while charging perfectly. Hope this helps.

My Samsung Stratosphere is being difficult.
I've had it since Christmas 2011.

    Problems-

    1) Sometimes the screen freezes and locks up, the only fix is pulling out the battery

    2) Will not send or receive multimedia messages. When I press "download" it says something like "currently unable to download" or something. And when I try to send it says "currently unable to send message" or something. Why is this? Might be linked to 3rd problem below??

    3) Will not connect to the 3g/4g network, says mobile data is on, wifi is off, but still doesn't work?

    *PLEASE HELP*

been dealing with this for a while. Really need some help, replacing the phone is possible as well.

    1) That shouldn't happen. I'd call it a hardware problem. Lagging is one thing but a hard freeze is grounds for exchange.
    2) Data is required for MMS so you are correct that it's related to 3.
    3) Try reseating your LTE sim card. The verizon rep swore up and down this would fix my problem but I still lose data once in a blue moon. I think the phone just sucks in general. Too bad it's the only decent qwerty with a removable battery :(

Addendum: I would just take this puppy back to verizon after backing up what you can.

I have the same problem with ending a call or activating the screen. It is hugely frustrating. It's more of a problem when the phone is charging. This is very frustrating. I've really grown to hate this phone b/c of these types of issues.
