They claim it's unlocked. What can I do with it? Would I have to have it activated through Verizon, or are there any providers that have "bring your own device" deals?

Also is there a website where I can check to see if it's been reported stolen?

With an unlocked Verizon phone i think your only options for other carriers are Straight Talk, i have never tried porting over to Sprint, even though Sprint and Verizon both run on CDMA/LTE networks.

How exactly do I go about getting this phone onto Straight Talk?

It wouldn't work. Straight Talk only operates with GSM phones.
Cricket would possibly work but it would be dodgy.

I forgot to ask: is this a 4g phone?
