Soooo....2.1 switch anyone?

    So im strongly debating just dropping root to go to 2.1 esp since it will be here thursday.... buttttt i really dont want to sacrifice the speed i have with rooth. im running so fast and i really see a huge difference over stock but that is about it. so im just wondering what
    everyone is thinking? opinions? thoughts? why to or why not?

    Really simple for me. I would weigh what I would get vs. what I would lose.

    I'd lose 1.2GHz, custom rom, custom theme, 2.1 3D style launcher with 4 static apps pinned to bottom of all 7 of my screens, etc. :D

    I'd gain a stock...watered down 2.1 upgrade...but hey, it would be an official release! :confused:

    I just don't see a "pro" to having the official update...maybe I'm missing something.

    this is true and why im prob not gunna do it. but what lajuncher are you usuing with the 3d style? thats prob the only thing im missing from having a full 2.1 feel. everything else that they get i have already plus were faster :)

    Well, if you are looking for the official 2.1 update to include a 3D launcher...it doesn't seem like that is gonna happen. It is set to still have the "pull up" app drawer.

    You can find this launcher (Helix is the name people are using...I belive). I'm running CyanogenMod's ROM. JIT is enabled and for me it has been stable on the experimental version 5.0.4.3. Speed is incredible with JIT on, and decent with it turned off...but I am running 7 screens, jam packed with widgets.

    On top of that I have the HexFusion theme specifically designed for CM. Nice! :cool:

    Maybe my next posts in a few minutes will convince you not to switch. I'm not trying to convince you to not update to the official 2.1...but you asked the question so I'll answer with my honest opinion :D

    We already have this update, it's called ESE53. Why do you think it was conveniently leaked 2 weeks ago? Free testers. The person from Motorola that leaked ESE53 even said this is the build we are going to release to the public.

    Flash is closer, thats my big excitement, cause it was a rumor, but its been said that maybe flash will come when 2.1 is here.

    Yeah, we are just pawns. :D I just love the hype of this release though. So many people, can't wait for an update that isn't that different from the original 2.0 that came on my droid initially. 3 Screens? Really? I feel that there will be mass disappointment when this starts being updated. I couldn't imagine going to a non-rooted 3 screen, stock build of ESE53...not fun!

    If you already went through the trouble of rooting your phone and installing a custom ROM, there are zero advantages to going back to do the OTA update to ESE53.

    Ahhh! I came up with an advantage to going with the OTA! You could sleep better at night knowing that you are 100% covered by warranty for the rest of your first year!

    Hey, I'm trying to be fair here! :D

    The warranty is for the hardware.

    Anyways, if you can figure out how to root your phone, flashing an .sbf file should be a piece of cake.

    Update to 2.1 and get watered down version of what should have been here 2 months ago, or stick w/ the best possible device for myself; a rooted Droid. There really isn't a question here, is there?

    I have to agree with most of the people above. I'm pretty happy with my setup right now, and the OTA update doesn't give me anything I don't already have. It does, however, take away a few thing that I DO have...

    I used to be dead-set against rooting but after numerous delays I rooted months ago. Now, I'm a rooting, flashing fool. I'm using Pete's rom and I'm thinknig of jumping over to Cyanogen's/Koush. I mean, compare Koush's ROM to the official update. With Koush's ROM, you basically have the same exact software as the N1 plus lots of other goodies (the ability to have wireless tethering, OC, and possibly Apps2SD) whereas the official update is lacking a lot of the good features from full 2.1.

    One other plus - with the "official 2.1" your phone will remain the same until the next update (who know when). With these custom roms you have guys (gals?) tirelessly innovating, competing, inventing, mixing, matching, all on a day to day basis. The improvements and innovations are and will remain fast and furious. No one is resting on their laurels. Now that is exciting!

    I am running 2.1 with SG 6.0.1 ROM, but I wonder how difficult it would be to re-root a 2.1 update just to get the stock image through nandroid.

    Planning on staying rooted primarily because I like having options....:D

    having said that, if I am currently running Koush's Cyanogenmod 5.0.4.2 are OTA updates automatically disabled or do I need to disable myself?
