Over the last few days, I've noticed my phone spontaneously restarting itself. It's happened at least 3 times since Friday, but those are the occasions it happened to be in eyeshot/earshot when it happened, so who knows how many times it's actually occurred.

I notice it also shows my up and awake time as being identical -- a little over 2 hours (which is how long it's been since the last random restart). It's been a bit laggier than usual, too. Not sure if either of those things are relevant or not, but thought I'd point them out.

Anyone having similar issues or have any guidance on what is going on?

    TIA

Mine has a few times, but maybe more because it could have happened when I was out of ear/eyeshot also. I too am curious about why it does it:confused:

Ok, this is strange, because my phone has begun doing this over the last few days too. It had NEVER restarted/rebooted by itself (had this since October) until late last week. And now, I'm seeing people posting about the same thing on forums.

Mine has only done it twice since Friday, and my phone is never out of earshot. Also, my uptime and awake time are not equal (less than 20% awake since the last restart this afternoon), and the phone doesn't seem to be behaving any different (laggy, etc.)

So, is this somehow related to an over the air 2.1 upgrade that is starting to (or not) sound imminent ? The phone did do an automatic update of the PRL to 60662 yesterday, could that be related? Or is it due to some sort of recent application update? Or just bizarre coincidence? Anyone else seeing this?

I don't have too many applications on my phone, but SportsTap, Handcent, and Speedtest.net have all upgraded recently, so I guess one of them might be at fault.

It's weird though, that I'm not the only one this has suddenly started happening to.

    Anyone have any thoughts?

(Oh, I guess I should also mention that this is the stock ROM, not rooted)

I have an Eris, so it's basically the same as the Hero. This was happening to me about a month ago. The phone was super laggy as well, and I only had about 5 apps installed. After poking around on the forum for answers I downloaded Spare Parts, changed window animations and transition animations to fast and turned off/down all of the battery killing options (haptic feedback, screen brightness, etc). Haven't had the problem since and the phone is a lot faster... Just a thought.

Thanks. I understand that if I had made some changes to settings, or added any new apps, but in my case (and I am gonna guess in the case of others who have just started seeing this) no changes have been made to the phone other than updating installed apps.

Once all the initial kinks were worked out back in October, the phone has been working (basically, for me) flawlessly. This is odd behavior, and even odder if other people are experiencing the same thing, all of a sudden.

Yeah, I've not made any wild and crazy changes to my (stock) Hero lately, either. Very odd...

Will look into the Spare Parts thing -- even if it doesn't fix this problem, sounds like it could be a good thing to have...

My phone has done this a handful of times since I got it in January. I would be more apt to think it was an automatic reboot after loading an update.

Continues to happen. Just finished a chat session with Sprint, thought I'd post it here:

Thank you. How long has your device been giving you these issues.
    12:19:47 PM [IMG]James
Just noticed it on Thursday or Friday of last week
    12:20:08 PM [IMG]James
Has just restarted itself, for no good reason, at least 4-5 times since then
    12:20:34 PM [IMG]James
been swapping notes with other users online, and it doesn't seem to be an isolated issue.
    12:20:49 PM [IMG]James
Are you all in the midst of an update of some sort or something?
    12:23:22 PM [IMG]Wayne W
If we do have an update available this would not effect your device and have it restart automatically with out any warning. After reviewing your account it shows you have total equipment protection on your device. I would recommend that you take your device to one of our local Sprint Repair center so a technician can physically research your device.
    12:24:09 PM [IMG]James
    OK. One other unrelated question
    12:24:51 PM [IMG]James
I had heard that the Android 2.1 update was due for the Hero on March 26, and heard separately that it wasn't scheduled until early April
    12:25:04 PM [IMG]James
Can you add any clarity here at all?
    12:25:25 PM [IMG]James
Also, do you know if it will be OTA, or will I need to go into a store to do the update?
    12:26:57 PM [IMG]Wayne W
We currently do not have a date set on when Android 2.1 software will be available. When it is available you will be able to download it from Sprint - Software Downloads - Select your device type
    12:27:20 PM [IMG]James
    OK, thanks.
    12:27:32 PM [IMG]Wayne W
    You're welcome.

Had to ask about 2.1 while I was at it, not because I thought I'd get any actual clarity, but just to see how divergent a response I'd get from those people have received from other CSRs. :D
