Ok, since the Evo has just been announced by Sprint that all of us employees / club members can now get the Evo starting tonight at midnight est., I would like to ask all of the forum users where we should all start. I know these forums will take off once all of these new users get their phones and have questions.

Is there some basics that we should do before we install too many apps?
    Recommended first apps?
    Root or not?

First off, this question was just answered in another thread for me. How do I purchase the Evo? (I am a SWAC user)

Things I plan on doing: (hopefully I do these in the correct order)

    - Install "Google Sync" and sync contacts
    - Download "App Brain" from the market and sync my apps online.
    - Root Evo
    - Install wifi tether (pdanet or other app)
    - Install Mobile Security (in case Evo is lost or stolen)
    - Install Astro (to edit/move files on my sd card)
    - Install Juice Defender (to turn on/off data on a schedule)
    - Install Setcpu
    - Possibly order the Seidio 3500 battery or the cheaper Chinese knockoff on Ebay)

you should read the tips and tricks section on tweaking. :)

depending on your question(s) would determine where to start.

as you can imagine, there is a vast amount of information on the evo already in the wild so searching the site for any question you may have is recommended rather than posting "what should i do"... one persons tastes in programs may not appeal to the other so installing programs is user specific.

there is a nice android app list thread to read thru and get your feet wet on running apps, 4G is not everywhere and if you have 4G coverage questions, there is a sprint subforum for that.

sprint has an extended battery as well as a pretty darn good car dock.

make sure you are up to date on the updates. :)

for the rooters, there is a rooting sub forum which will help you there...
