    My husband is getting a gnex his week. I'm going to
    root it. I know with other manufacturers, accepting updates is not advised, but considering the gnex is a "developer" phone, is it okay to update to JB before I root it?

    Yep just follow the guide I posted (link is in my sig) for the Galaxy Nexus it will work on any OS build.

    Yeah as long as you haven't installed a custom recovery yet. I will probably take it tomorrow.

    Google has used the same bootloader lock since the Nexus One so as far as we know they are never going to change it. It is the same on the GSM version of Jelly Bean as it is on ICS so I asume it won't be changed for the Sprint version.
