Help Still having Gmail Issues!!

I had both of my phones under the same gmail account. the g1 was getting pushed notifications with no problems but the evo wouldnt. so when i ported the g1 phone # over to the evo, i did a factory reset on the g1 and I'm still not getting automatic emails on the evo. I updated the gmail app and everything-- nothing works. i've had this email address for almost two years and use it on EVERYTHING so i really cant just do a factory reset on the evo and make a new account what can i do? i don't like the regular 'mail' app any advice?
