stop browser refresh on window change

Very annoying, I will load a web page then open a new window. Whenever I go back to the original window the browser refreshes the page. The page is already fully loaded, no reason to refresh. then I have to wait for the whole thing to download again. With a large page that can take a while. Blah! Anyway to stop this?
