Is there a way to turn off contact sync? Every person I add to a circle adds a contact entry to my Android phone list. I don't want that, especially adding contacts in my acquaintance or following circle.

under settings ---> accounts & sync ---> google there is a google+ notifications you can uncheck...I dunno if that will do anything to contacts. that said, nobody has been added to my people list. do you use your phone or google to store your contacts?

I use Google for my contacts. I'll check that setting out, thanks!

If you're using an HTC Sense device, open People -> Menu -> View -> Uncheck "Show auto Gmail contacts".

I'm sure it will be similar on non HTC devices and shouldn't be hard to find.

Great thanks. I don't have that exact option, but one that I can Uncheck ungrouped contacts. I'll try that.

It only hides the Google+ contacts. The thousands of G+ contacts still sync with your phone.
