Hey everyone,

Im looking to figure out how to stream a video off my website through the browser.

I know it is possible since ive seen some of those mobile porn sites do it, I just cant figure out what format this is in.. or how to get the vid to play.

has anyone tried this? any luck? any tips?

thanks in advance

Hey Guy's, thought this might help. I am a Video Editor and have many different compression schemes for posting and streaming of media. I know that the best possible video resolution for our phones is to use an H.264 Codec and make the video size 480x320 pixels. I work on a mac and Quicktime Pro, Squeeze, Compressor, Avid and Final Cut, all allow me to create whatever I need for the phone. I'm not 100% about "those sites" but I did find one (and by I, I mean "a friend") site that had streaming video. It played just fine, clean and without dropping frames. Unfortunatly I couldn't get the specs but it had to be either Flash (.flv or .swf) or H.264 with hinted streaming enabled. I can help out anyone that needs it, if you can host the video somewhere. I don't currently have a good hosting site but have many ways to create the content.

Let me know.

I would love if you could help me out!!

What I am looking to do is take a few dvds of mine and store them on my server so i can stream them over 3g when on the train. I know i could just store them on the phone(which i have been doing) but i would love for there to be more variety than what would fit on my phone.

I have server space from a webhosting company so I would be able to give to upload info if you wanna upload some files to test out.

I really hope we can figure this out! thanks again for offering to help

No Problem, I'll do a few different compressions and post them to my .mac account and email you a link. Once you get the link, download the files to your server and host them with direct links. I'll name the files in a manner that you'll be able to tell which ones look and stream the best. From there, I can determine what exact scheme works best and then either you, or I can start creating the files that you want.

I don't really have the time today, but tomorrow should be no problem. I'll shoot you an email with the link.

I'm not sure if Netflix is into hosting mobile video like they do for computers, but this seems like the next step in the evolution. I wonder how hard it would be to deal with the studio's in getting permissions to start a mobile device streaming site with a monthly subscription? Seems like an easy way to make a living and it also seems like if the price is right, people would be into it.
