Hey guys, I have had the Droid X for a week and I'm still really uncomfortable with the size of the phone. It is a nice screen, but the size just doesn't feel comfortable in my hand. Also, I hardly ever hear my phone ring on the X. I miss a lot of calls.
I'm considering switching to the Droid Incredible.

What would I be losing, considering the Inc is getting 720p video and Froyo? I need some help thinking this one through.

I gave up the incredible for the X. You'd be losing nothing, really. The incredible is getting 720p and the phones will be on par.

Understand that with the Incredible, it is hard to see it in the sun. They vzw store had this screen protector that apparently enables you to see the screen better in the sun. I saw it on my sister's and you could see it better, actually. I don't know what it is.

You also lose the hdmi out port.

So, you don't lose much. I'd go for it as I love the Sense UI on the incredible. Yeah, if you don't like the feel of the X (which I do) you'll love the Incredible. Good luck!

I didn't have the Incredible. I ordered it, but canceled and got the X instead. So I don't have first-hand experience. But in all that I've read, the X battery puts a hurtin' on the Incredible's. However, there is always the option to get an extended battery.

I was worried about the size of the X, but after time, I have gotten used to it. I still have my moments of, "Man, this thing is huge," but it passes. I think for my next phone, I'd like something more in the middle of the two size-wise.

As for ringtones, have you tried using ones that aren't stock on the phone? Ringtones and Zedge are both free in the market and have tons and tons of ringtones. I haven't had any problem hearing any of them. (I'm using the Kill Bill siren as my default ringtone AND alarm clock. It works great!) I read somewhere about a volume hack too, but I don't remember the specifics.

Before everyone comes in talking about how your crazy because they own an X and have to defend it, let me tell you I did just that. I have nice size hands and even still the phone would shift when I was doing basic things like dragging down the notification bar with my thumb. Felt like it was going to fall.

I kept on naturally wanting to use two hands. Like I would do it and it just came out of habit because it kept feeling like I was gonna drop it. So I switched to the Incredible and it's def easier to handle.

They both have pluses. I personally HATE the antenna on the incredible. HTC uses weak antennas I don't care what any of the Inc guys try to claim. With the X you will see FULL bars and 3G all the time. (in my area anyway). With the Inc I see 2 bars and it flips to 1X more than I would like. But...it's not TOO big a deal. I'll keep my options open when the D2 comes out.

Oh yeah, I left that part out. I totally agree with you. The reception on the X is far superior, for me, than it was on the Dinc. Thank you.

I am had the INC for a long time before ultimately trading for the X. The responsiveness of the touch, the battery, the signal strength, I could not see going back. Plus you could not see the screen in the sun at all.

I have pretty small hands but constantly had to go back after making errors on the INC. I can count on one hand how many times I have hit the wrong thing on the X. Plus Swype is the coolest thing ever. After 15 days with the X my ONLY gripe is the volume.

The X has been better than I thought, it really is a small laptop. That being said if it doesn't feel right you should take it back.

If you truly cannot get adjusted to the size of the X than I think you might be suited for the Incredible. I never had any issues with my Incredible, reception was always great, maybe I was just one of the lucky ones. The only thing I disliked was the battery back being a little flimsy, mine squeaked. Both are great phones, if this is too big than I would definitely suggest getting the Incredible.

I have them both. Incredible is smaller and prettier, at least stock. If a smaller size matters, you can do no wrong with the Incredible.

I don't understand all the people who say it's too big. It's the same size as my 3GS in a thin rubber Incipio case. It's way thinner than a flip phone. I think 4"-4.3" is the new sweet spot for screen size. I think some people think it's big because of the screen size. If you look at the 3GS there is a lot of room above and below the screen. The Droid X just makes better use of the room on the front of the phone.

Honestly, I've had the phone since launch and it does not look and feel as huge as it used to be when I first got it. The effect becomes more apparent whenever I take off the snap-on case when I get home.

However, when I try messing with my dad's incredible, everything about the Inc seems dwarfed.

Put a rubber case on it and you won't be so sensitive to how big it is.

    Holy crap.

I own the X and have played with the Incredible on occasion, and I think the Inc's size is better suited to someone like me w/ medium/large sized hands. I was just using the X for a phone call and I have to shift the phone a bit in my hands in order to reach far parts of the screen if I expect to go one-handed. There are times where it did feel like I was about to drop the phone doing that, but i'm a clumsy guy. However, at other times, when browsing the web, watching videos, playing games, etc., the screen is a blessing. I love the build of the X, too.

Also, consider that the newer Incs might not have the AMOLED screen anymore. This could have an effect on the outdoor visibility and battery life for the inc.

The incredible is a good choice if the X is too big for you. I had the incredible but had some issues with call quality and reciption but I think those have been fixed.

I'm ok with the size of the X but think that 4 inches is real sweet spot. If you think the X is too big you might want to consider the Fascinate when it comes out in about a month. It's only about .2 inches shorter and .1 inches narrower but because its edges are all rounded and it's thinner than the X is feels much nicer in the hand. You could go to a TMobile store and check out the Vibrant for a comparison.

The only issue I have with the Galaxy S phones is that I don't trust Samsung to give us bug fixes and updates (although the root community could probably take care of some of this).

Make the switch to the Incredible. It's a better device. People who never owned one will never know and those that did and switched to the X secretly wished they hadn't.

Hello everyone. Been browsing these forums for several months, but finally registered today. Anyways, I just switched from the DI to the DX as of yesterday. I had the DI since launch day. It's an awesome phone. Absolutely love it. I was coming from the "iphone" series. But since AT&T does not have 3G coverage in my area. I wanted to make a switch. I was going to get the Evo 4G for the screen size. But decided on the DI since Verizon coverage is good in our area. But I still longed for the screen size, so I switched to the DX. So for the OP (erjennin), here are my first impressions of the DI vs. DX. (Go to the end if you do not want to read it all, haha.)

The DI is way way better as far as the UI goes. Sense UI is much more user friendly, and seems to offer more compared to MotoBlur. Of course I've only had the DX for one day, but I switched to LauncherPro. It does make up for the lack of Sense UI. And I'm learning to like it a lot as I learn more about it (especially customizing it). But you cannot beat Sense UI (imo) for ease of use and features.

The screens. As you have heard, the DI colors just pop out at you indoors. But the DX is more accurate. In fact, the DX matches my color scheme on my computer monitor. I think I have read that the DX displays more colors than the DI? I cannot remember which article that was. DI blacks are much blacker than the DX. But the DX whites are much whiter than the DI. The DI white has a blueish hue. I never noticed it before on the DI until I had both phones side by side. Outdoors in direct sunlight, you cannot seen the screen on the DI, but you can make it out on the DX. In the shade or on a cloudy day, I would say they are about the same. With only one day with the DX, I have made less typing errors than I did with the DI. Maybe it's the screen size? Maybe it's the keyboard app? Maybe it's both?

Battery life? With only one day with the DX, I can tell the battery life is a lot better than the DI. If you get a DI, get an extended battery.

Signal/Reception? The DX is better. I work in a factory. Lots of machinery. In the break room, my DI would hop between 1 bar on 3G to 1X. Surfing the internet sucked (if I could surf at all). With the DX, 3 to 4 bars on 3G. Surfing the net was awesome. Phone calls? I rarely talk on the phone, but from what I could tell, the DX sounded clearer when being called at my computer desk by the same friend, than on my DI.

Other things to consider? Hmmm, personal preference, I like the DI better for the 4 capacitive buttons at the bottom. I'm trying to get used to the 4 "push" buttons on the DX. The speaker on the DI vs DX? I don't notice that the DI is better. But I'm still trying to figure out the ringer. DX is DLNA compatible. I do not think the DI has this. But I haven't tried hooking up my DX to my XBox 360 yet. I like the stock music player on the DI better than the DX. I like the camera setup on the DI better, but I like the camera button placement on the DX more. The camera sticks out on the back DI unless if you put a case on it to protect it.

If you want to see picture and video quality differences, go to AnandTech website and read their DX review. They have many pictures and videos of several phones posted in that article.

Sorry for the long post. But I think the DI is an awesome phone if you choose it. If you go from DX to DI, you will just be missing out on: the screen size, signal/reception, 720p video (for now, but doesn't mean it will be up to par when it does), DLNA, HDMI out, and battery life (stock vs stock). You would gain: smaller phone size (to suit you?), vibrant colors, Sense UI, and extended battery options (for now).

    Hope this helps?

Thanks! I guess I'll go throw my DI on eBay now after I factory reset it. It's a great phone, but the size of the DX does not bother me. Plus the reception is a winner for me as well as a few other things. I thought it would take a week for me to decide which phone to keep. But after only one day, I know which is right "for me". :)
