Root successful root but no usb to pc???

I successfully rooted my galaxy (tmobile vibrant) but now when i connect it to my pc via micro usb it isnt detected by the pc and also my galaxy doesnt pop up with the option to mount sd card on the pc.

The phone still charges but has no data connection what so ever via usb.

I would rather not take out my sd card everytime i want to xfer a file.

also the method i used to root my galaxy (vibrant)
downloaded and installed:
JDK
android SDK
ran adb reboot recovery from cmd using android SDK

flashed update.zip from recovery boot.

I also tried using Samsung Kies with no luck

as well as another forum post to dial #7547# (or something like that) and switch it out of pda mode, the number did not work.

sorry to reply to my own post but

*RESOLVED*

if anyone else runs into this problem this is what i did.

turned off usb debugging

then went to
applications>USB settings>ask on connection

this will let me mount the sd card and internal memory but KIES still doesnt work for somereason, hasnt worked since I downloaded it but my phone was rooted when I attempted all times.
