So I'm new here and I'm having a serious debate as to which carrier/phone to go with that best suites MY needs. From the looks of it, it seems like everyone thinks their phone is best and never seem to take into consideration that everyone is different and has different wants. This makes it extremely hard to find out which phone would give me the best experience for what I want. Now obviously my two options are the EVO or the droid x. Or possibly waiting for something else to drop.

So it here it goes...I am a basketball nut (see username). I love to watch all NBA basketball games regardless of the team or time of season. If I picked up a smartphone with the unlimited data plan, the only thing that really matters to me is being able to watch my games wherever I want. When it comes to the web, I

Holy information! It's really hard to say which phone is better for you. Have you thought of waiting for the X to be released and compare both in store? If 4G is important to you, then obviously it would be the EVO.

Yes I have. My contract ends july 18th, so I'm debating if I should just wait til then to pull the trigger or do Sprint's 30 day trial thing and then comparing it to the X once its released.

And that's thing, I don't know how significant 4G is to what I want to do. If it's really going to improve my experience, then it's EVo all the way. But if 3G can handle it, then it all of a sudden just becomes an extra perk than an actual need. Anyone who knows the difference when it comes to quality streams could really help me out.

My phone has 3.7inch screen on verizon and I find my experience watching NBA on my phone to be not great. 4.3inch would be better but still if you are truly a NBA freak than it would be pretty bad.
A question: if you are on campus or what not can't you just use wifi or something?

Yea I could. I guess I kind of deserve a smack on the head for that one lol. Although my home internet is pretty slow and 4G is supposed to be better than low end DSL correct? It would probably help for when I'm at work too though like on break and stuff. But I haven't checked for what the coverage is out there yet. thanks for that input tho man, does it really get that hard to see though?

From what I've seen about 4g speeds, they aren't really that impressive compared to 3g. In the study I saw 3g actually beat out 4g in a lot of areas (not sure if Chicago was one of them) As far as typing goes, the X with a multi touch keyboard is gonna blow away your standard virtual keyboard. Its not really an issue though if you use swype (which the X comes with) Both phones will be getting Froyo (haven't seen any news about when the Evo will get it, but the X will have it by the end of the summer. I've never used GV for sms, but the voicemail feature is nice. I like being able to listen to my VM on my pc.

You have probably considered this already but I get 18 megabits/s internet to my place and its only $50 or so. What you can do is find out how fast 4G is in your area, go to a Clear store or something and ask, I think they have home internet plus on the go for $55ish.
