I started off my Moment with a 2GB SD card and want to switch over to my 8 (or 16). I'm assuming it'll be an easy process, but I also know what happens when I assume, and 10 minute projects turn into 10 hour projects. I'm planning on just formatting my 8GB card, copying all of my existing 2GB Card into a folder on my computer, then copying that data to the 8GB card.. simple enough?

Just wanted to see if anyone has had any experience/issues with this.

You got it. It's the simplest thing to do with your phone.
Format the new card, then xfer over all the files from the 2GB to the 8GB, then put the 8GB into the phone.
However, just to clarify, it is a Micro SD. Not a standard SD;)

So, this issue might have more to do with my computer, but here's my situation:
I have the 8gig micro sd formatted and ready (in an sd adapter). The 2gig is in my phone. For some reason, when i put the 2gb micro sd in the adapter and insert into my laptop, explorer freezes/crashes until I remove it. So, I put the formatted 8gb back in the adapter, and back into laptop, then just tried to mount the 2gb while in my phone to copy the files over that way. There are several files in use though, and wont copy everything.
So.. 1. Is this familiar to anyone, and 2. Is there a way to connect the phone via usb and unmount the card so that no files are in use? I tried going (in phone, while connected) to settings, SD storage, unmount, but still got the same results.
    Any ideas?

I had the same problem with the laptop not seeing the sd card after removal from the phone. The way I got it to work was to buy a $5 universal card reader and use that to pull the files off the 2g and put them on the laptop. Then use it to fill the 8g and reinsert into the phone. I also found out if you pull the card while the phone is off and turn the phone on and off again and then reinsert the card it looses all the date. Unmount the card any time you are going to remove it and all is good.

Ya, I've tried that too -- any other suggestions?

Hey, just to report back (and thank u ppl for the feedback)
I did get a cheap universal card reader, unmounted and copied existing microsd 2gb to computer, then copied all to new 8gb card and back into phone. It all seemed to go smoothly (besides hang up with all of the Dolphin browser cache files...).
Now.. super weird thing that sucks, but not life or death:
I plugged my phone into the charger, and one of my podcast mp3s started playing. then I got a text, and a diff started to play (handcent). It seems that any ringtone that i customized/personalized was [randomly] reassigned a different tone.
I'm going thru and fixing manually, but any ideas on what that could be?
Another pain is that, anything I had sorted by date, or 'newest first' is all wacked- since its grabbing the "new" date created.

I'm trying the same thing right now, switching from the 2 to a 16... My problem is I have the stuff off my 2GB, have the newly formatted 16GB in the phone as "14.82 Free" and when I go to drop anything on it, I get a lock up.

Pull the card, and put it in the reader, same issue, lock up...

Put the 2 back in the phone and everything works like gold?

    Any thoughts?

Ya, that sounds almost exactly like my situation. Apparently, it had to do with my laptop's built in card reader. I picked up a cheap external multi-card reader and formatted the 8GB card. Then went to my phone (with the 2GB), went to settings, SD Storage, Unmount (don't know if this is necessary, cuz you have to pull the battery to get the card out).. removed phone's card, copied contents to my harddrive, then copied over to the 8GB.
I just still have the weird ringer situation, but all else is good.
