My wife's Ally is set to the Android home theme, but every now and then will switch to the LG home theme on its own....then when she goes to check and see what theme it is set to, it shows that it's set to the Android theme...but it's actually on the LG theme. VERY frustrating.... So, she has to set it to the LG theme, then go back to the Android theme just to get it straight again.

Anyone had that happen? And I wonder if using something like Launcherpro would solve that issue....I'm using that on my Droid and I love it....any thoughts?

I don't have an answer for your wife's problem other than to say my home theme has never randomly changed. I do use ADW.Launcher though so that may have something to do with it.

I use the LG one to have the 4 extra home icons and mine has never changed on its own... I used the stock Android ones for a few days and it never flipped... I may would just try a soft reset then if it still does it go with a hard reset before having a corporate store have a look at it...

When you change themes are you just going thru the menu or are you using an app like home switcher. If you use home switcher it allows you the option to set a theme or launcher as default. If for some reason your theme isn't getting saved as default it will switch back to what is saved as default every time you hit the home button.

She's not "changing" themes...it was set to the Android theme, and every now and then she would look down and it would be on the LG theme....without touching anything. Nothing like home switcher is being used...the phone is just like it was out of the box.

I did install launcherpro on it and no problems changing themes on it's own yet.

    thanks

My new Ally was set to Android theme and randomly switched to LG Theme after I hit press to lock while making a call. I just saw your post and was wondering if you got an answer.

Never got an answer, but did solve the problem....sold the Ally and switched her back to a Blackberry Tour. The Ally had been the absolute worst phone we have ever owned...and we've owned quite a few. Unresponsive screen, terrible lag, very poor signal, short battery life, i could go on....had it replaced, same problems still. LG/Verizon should have never released that phone...I guess for people with lots of patience or someone who just doesn't realize that you should not have to put up with crap like that out of a brand new device, it may be an OK phone.....for us, not so much.

Blackberry fits her better, it works every time when she needs it to and holds a signal much better...for me, the Droid X is awesome...had the Fascinate for a week and the call quality was terrible, returned it for the Droid X.

Sorry that your wife's Ally had such problem. I also had some apps popping up randomly a few times when phone was unlocked from standby, but I never had theme switching by itself randomly. It seems very unlikely to happen because it takes 3~4 steps to do so manually. I don't know what caused it in your wife's old Ally, and wish good luck with new BB.

But I can't agree on your assessment on Ally. Slow?, yes, it's a mid-range android phone. But it's still absolutely usable as a decent smart-phone. I'm not having any signal issue with my Ally compared my previous verizon phones and its call quality is quite good. Lastly, the battery life is good for one daytime at least under medium usage, which is normal for smart-phone. It depends a lot on the settings, apps you put, but it's no worse than higher end phones like D2, Dinc from what I have read.

I have had the Blackberry Storm2, Motorola Droid, Samsung Fascinate, and Motorola Droid X...all of those will last two full days with moderate usage with no problem, and those last two have 1ghz processors and 4"-4.3" screens. Moderate usage to me is a few phone calls a day, checking facebook, playing a game or two every now and then, and lots of texting. My wife uses her phone for one phone call every morning and some light texting throughout the day...that's it. From 6:30 am to 6 pm, her ally would consistently be at around 30-40 percent each day. At first we thought it was a bad phone, so that's when we swapped it for a new replacement...same issues still existed. Oh, and other than what came pre-installed on the phone she had literally ONE app installed...facebook.

You were getting two full days out of DX, Fascinate regularly? That's incredibly good life from high end super-phones. I'm not sure if there are any guys at DX, Fascinate forums enjoying such a long battery life. Majority of them seem to get through a day barely or a little less. Maybe you better share with them how you got that good battery results.

Just yesterday, unplugged my X at around 6:15 am and went through a normal day (like I said...texting, facebook, a couple of calls, etc)....by the time I got home at around 6:30 pm, I was still at 70 percent. Not doing anything special...brightness set to around 20 percent, not using many widgets, nothing special really.

Then you seem to have really exceptional battery experience with your DX. That's good for you. Maybe all others got defective batteries (just kidding)?
Anyway my point is that Ally's battery is not worse than average battery life from majority of super-phone users though there are some exceptions like you. If you look at the battery thread here, there is also an Ally owner claiming 2~3 days of moderate usage.

Look, I'm not trying to bash the Ally...if it works for you, great. Doesn't matter to me at all...have you held the Ally side by side with something like the X, Fascinate, Incredible, D2, or even D1? There IS a night and day difference in those phones and the Ally...fact. If you feel it is the phone for you that's awesome....but in this case, the grass is in fact greener over here.

Everybody has their reason why they chose the phones that they do. No one persons opinion is going to cover everyone. Lets not evangelize for our particular phones. We are all part of the Android community. Lets play nice and respect others decisions to purchase the phones they did and help them by answering questions they have about their devices. LOL and no Roll-Tide "get an X" is not an answer :D Have fun guys and enjoy your devices for the reasons you purchased them!

I got Ally after looking at and holding DX, D2 at Verizon store. Fascinate was just about to come out at that time. I dropped Dinc from consideration because I saw so many complains on its poor battery and poor AMOLED visibility outdoors. Though DX performed nicely with great looking screen, it's size, form factor was just not for me. That left me with D2 and Ally and I liked having keyboard. The keyboard on Ally simply felt better to my hand for typing than D2. D2 is a bit bigger, heavier than Ally and doesn't have spring for easy sliding out the keyboard.
I know Ally is slower than others here, but that's why it's nearly couple of hundreds cheaper to get. Unless you are heavy on multi-media, gaming stuffs, this is a good inexpensive mid-range smart-phone with battery good for one day. I know everyone has different taste and anyone looking for fast performance should not get Ally.
