Swype 2.10 is a BIG improvementGeneral

    After upgrading to 2.2 FROYO.ZSJPD, I've been really really annoyed by the Swype upgrade. (Swype v2.7.49.12613)

    The old swype performed much better. Better prediction, and faster. The 'upgraded' swype keeps replacing key words using names from my address book 'Yiu always replaces You' and then likes to pop up those notification messages. Accuracy seems off for other more common words.

    But, if you're just as annoyed as I've been, root your phone, back up the old swype files (Swype.apk, Swype.odex, and libSwypeCore.so) find yourself the Swype WVGA 2.10.52.13753 package and install that instead.

    I waited forever for Froyo, and I'll be damn'd if I need to wait for an upgrade just to fix this version of Swype.

    Now I can finally go back to enjoying writing my messages.

    how do we install it? it says application not installed. Because it is
    as system file. I was working on this
    last night after I found the new version. My epic has version 2.5.xxxx
    and i uninstalled via Titanium but that was a no no lol couldn't get it back
    so i installed the version 2.10 and it just led to FCs
    I eventually had to nandroid /system to get it back :p

    I'm running a GT-i9000, international SGS. Just background info to let you know there might be something different about our phones.

    What I did was

    1) I didn't just use a back up program. I literally went in and cut (copy+delete) the files out of the main directories.

    a) Us a program that can set your system directory to R/W (read/write) there are a few root system browsers out there. I use a program called 'Super Manager' to do it.
    b) I moved Swype.apk and Swype.odex out of the /system/app directory (just dump it in a temporary directory. I put it into my dropbox directory so it synced to my notebook). Again I moved libSwypeCore.so out of the /system/lib directory to the same temporary directory. If it doesn't work then you can just move everything back.

    2) I made sure I selected another IME as my primary input method, and I rebooted the phone of good measure. Then I just ran the apk file I found (Swype WVGA 2.10.52.13753.apk) which had the updated Swype. It installed and it runs fine, I didn't have to do anything special.

    Note: IF you're downloading from the link (http://beta.swype.com/android/get) That just installs an installing program. That's not swype. I don't have a beta account, so I was searching online and I ran into someone who had posted the apk. I don't want to violate any board policy by posting it. However, since Samsung technically has a deal with swype, I figured manually updating it myself doesn't really mean I violated anything.

    I hope that helps. It is totally worth the update.

    I completely agree, its already on the phone as license paid, i am just
    upgrading [= I have had that apk you speak of
    only thing i do not see is SWYPE.ODEX in /system/app <- only see apk files in there
    thanks for the help so far, I moved the other two files :D

    its stupid having swype but cant update it with out rooting the phone

    I figured it out, bit of research and trial/error
    the string i used but all the file does is FC and FC

    cd c:\android\tools\
    adb kill-server
    adb devices
    adb install c:\android\tools\Swype.apk

    Any other way of improving Swype without rooting? The Galaxy S is so bloomin' temperamental, don't want to void my warranty as I know something will break in the future.
