i have noticed that when i am playing with apps in the phone or sometimes in the morning after i havent used it all night, that is seems really slow to receive calls, and sometimes the systems slows down so much that i end up missing the call before i can select to answer. for example, ill be in the middle of a text, the text will become unresponsive then the screen turns to the ringing screen. i have it on ring and vib, but the vibe gets quite a few rings in before the ringer activates and then when i try to answer it it just wont answer until its too late and i missed my call. this has happend also when i wasnt doing anything today, it rang and then wouldnt let me answer the phone. i guess my questions are whether anyone else has had this problem, and if so is it a problem with the acclaim or with androids in general. this is my first android so i just wanted other feed back, and maybe a way to fix this if possible.

This actually happened to me for the first time yesterday (have had the phone for close to 3 months now). I was playing an mp3 via the music player and was also typing a text message. Then my phone started to vibrate and the screen went blank and it was acting like it was trying to display the incoming call screen. Finally after about what seemed like 10 seconds or so it finally displayed the incoming call screen with the callers picture but only lasted about 1 second because by that time it went to voicemail.

It was really odd and almost seemed like the system was just bogged down with other stuff that I was doing that it couldn't get the call screen displayed in time. It has only happened to me once so far and for me personally isn't too big of deal since I have only been able to make it happen once. The only thing I could suggest is to make sure that you are using one of the App killers from the market and make sure you kill any unused apps on a regular basis. I do this often and it seems to help both with performance and battery life.

Go to Settings > About Phone > and select Battery Use. This will show you what is using the most power, and likely the most resources as well!

BTW, there's a fair amount of debate out there just how efficient Task Killers are on Android. A lot of knowledgeable folks say that Android doesn't really need those if the apps on the phone are well written. Also, as the Task Killer app is TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident), it uses a fair amount of resources all on its own.

Rob, I have heard this as well but what about the Task Killers that can be launched via a widget? That is what I use and it simply kills whatever processes that are running (and you don't have in your exclude list) and then dies. After I kill the apps, the task killer does not show up in the list of running services on the phone. Am I missing something or where you talking about Task Killers that do AutoKill and stay running in the background?

Don't use any launcher programs such as LauncherPro, these seem to wreak havok on this phone. Also, delete apps that you don't need to try and keep at least 20-30 MB free at all times. This is what has been working for me, that and rooting it to get rid of the bloatware garbage that we should be able to delete if we don't want it. Overall I have not been very happy with this phone, but US cellular's stance is that it is an "entry level" android phone.

Crober, sorry to hear you are having bad luck with LP. I have it on mine with 3 home screens and I haven't had any consistent major issues. It does get a little slow at times, but nothing that I can't handle. I think I have around 45 MB or so free on mine with all of my apps installed (but I do not have it rooted).

Did you try using LP's advanced settings for memory management? Since I set those, it seems to be faster for me and more stable.
