Can someone confirm that while on the phone that you are not able to browse the internet or use an app that uses the internet.

I read someone where that this is a limitation is this true?

    Thanks again

Not positive if the internet interferes directly with a call, but using DialerOne you CAN minimize the call screen (while staying on the call) and use other features of your phone. Am not on a phone call currently so I cannot explicitly state whether or not the internet itself interferes with the call or not.

You cannot use cellular internet while on a call. Because there's only one radio, it cannot concurrently use call bandwidth and 3G data bandwidth.

GSM phones have a separate WCDMA radio for internet, which is why they can use both simultaneously.

If you are connected to WiFi, you will be able to use the internet on a call.

Binary visions' explanation sounds right to me. I've always been able to use the Internet while in a call. Even my LG Voyager allowed this.

In the immortal words of Ed McMahon "you are correct sir!". This is something that will likely change in the future when VZW implements 4G. Till then, however, talking and surfing at the same time on the same phone over 3G doesn't necessarily work. Add WiFi and it's a different ball game...

Let me clarify. I can talk to people and surf the net over 3G at any time. It always has and always does work for me. The only instance that I can see it not working is if I lose my 3G connection in the middle of browsing/talking, as binary visions mentioned. The slower X1 signal alone would prevent me from really browsing, let alone the fact that the call is using the same radio simultaneously.

if my phone has 3g connection and i then make a phone call. the 3g logo in the status bar disappears and no 3g data can be accessed.

with wifi turned on and connected i can access the net while in a phone.

you have got to be mistaken paycer.

You need to try it again deliberately and make sure you're not using cached data.

I just tried it and it simply doesn't work. It's not using slower 1x data, either, it's just not working. It works when I'm connected to Wifi, and the browser will load cached webpages for me if it can't get data, but I can't browse. If I hang up my call, I will immediately get data back.

'cause if your DX can do that, I want to trade ;). It's a limitation of the technology. I don't know of any SVDO test markets and Google doesn't seem to provide one...

Verizons network does not support making a call and using data at the same time. CDMA simply doesn't work that way. Wifi + voice will work, however.
