Tasker reporting "-1" %CELLSIG

Like the title explains, apparently %CELLSIG ALWAYS returns "-1"

I've searched and searched, but simply can't find the answer on how to debug this.

Can anyone give me a couple tips, anything really, on how to fix this?

It's been that way for me since the feature was introduced. IIRC, it was chalked up to being a CDMA issue.

Dammit. Because a while ago I had it displaying between 2-15 and then suddenly it only started displaying "-1"

It seemed glitchy to begin with. So this kind of ruins my ability to detect "no signal" to enable/disable airplane mode.

Why is tasker now reporting a 12 %CELLSIG and "service" for %CELLSRV when before it was "-1" and "unknown" respectively... :S

Did you try reading the Tasker user manual?

The current phone signal level from 0-8 inclusive on a rougly linear scale. On some CDMA phones, the level will rise in steps of 2 (0,2,4,6,8). The value is -1 if the value is unknown or there is e.g. no service.
There is a bug with some Android versions that the reported signal strength is not updated until the device is turned off and on.

Yes I have read the tasker manual. As you pointed out through your bolded statement, it says it may not update until the phone is turned off/on. However, my phone has been on for 92h straight now. And I don't see that as the reason.

I had the same issue. If %CELLSIG is only referenced in a task then it returns -1
If you reference it in the profile then it returns a valid value
Same type of thing for CELLSRV
