Not yet. It's all very new to me.
I would need a step by step in order to do it. HTC was easy to custom ROM etc.. but because I'm new to Android, I almost need tutorials.

What are the main reasons for rooting anyways?

Do you have the link for the step by step?
Also, is this setup for the Telus Milestone or international Milestones or all?

    Thanks in advance

If you have more questions fire away ... response time might be delayed going to the store lol :p

And how exactly do they benefit financially when they give you a phone that is not rooted?

I think he missed the fact that the milestone comes with none XD

nice man thats one thing i havent done yet got a link for me? :D

I was playing around in the root deleting crap I didn't want and well i crashed the phone haha so that being said I don't delete too much now lol... although i was very impressed i went off deleting whatever i could to see what removed what.... the phone wouldn't even stop popping up with errors i had a problem even trying to shut it down lol... but to my amazement when the phone rebooted it applied the stock things to stop itself from crashing ... very nice!!! although I did have to apply the original telus fw and then the vun rec again and all was back on there :D

PS I also applied the kernel fix for the clock and something else i forget... i never noticed it anyway but rather have it and not need it then to need it and not have it...

2.1 kernel fix of scheduled CPU wake-ups

This SBF file will flash only the boot.img (kernel+init) from SHOLS_U2_03.10.0: mediafire, rapidshare
It will fix the broken scheduling of Alarm/RTC interrupts on the SHOLS_U2_02.31 and SHOLS_U2_02.34.0 systems (kernel problem - alarms delayed).

K your a little off the deep end.

Root is necessary as a power user for installing tweaking applications, not much in terms of functionality is missing from a non root device. Overclocking? Not necessary. Tethering? Doable without root.

What is it you were missing even?

If you want to talk about proprietary crap and needing SU access, go bark up apple's tree XD

Then maybe you mis-understood me thats exactly what I mean. They make a phone and don't allow you to change it how you like? Install and remove what you want?? Only so they can make more money off you and their advertising or sponsers... eve if it was on initially and you could remove it after then fine but I hate motonav and the rest of the bullsh*t and it wont let you remove it with out root!!! its not like these companies dont have enough money and I fu*king hate apple! I paid for it and own it so I'm glad there is people who crack their stupid locks so us users can customize it how we like... I dont care about overclocking, i dont care about tethering.... functionality i never mentioned once... all I said is that I want to be able to customize the phone how I want with apps i want and not be forced into something that they think will profit them! get it now? If you need it to be more clear let me know and i'll elabourate lol

Motonav was free, and included because at the time of launch, google nav wasn't available in Canada.

They make no money off the phone itself. They make it off your service contract.

They make no money off what is on the phone, they make their money off the stream of data being funnelled in the direction of your sim card.

I sell these phones 5 or 6 days in a week. Truuuust me when I say you're a bit off that mark.

They don't lock down the core of the operating system so that people can't play, they do it so people can't break the phones and cause them write offs.

Glad you responded, even though its free, cluttering up the phone with usless process and garbage i dont want to see says to me that yes you will use this and its included and you cant do a thing about it when you purchase it with your hard earned money... which is why i like rooters... I don't use any nav software .... I know they don't make money off the phone being an electronic... i said whats on the phone they try to get you to purchase their partners products... and its telus that makes money off the contract not Motorola.. well im sure they get royalties for telus using their product or some political bullsh*t. So your saying these companies say here put this trial software on your phone so people can use it and pay us money??? but Motorola doesn't benefit from it??? you would have to be naive to think that... kind of reminds me of when emachine came out little bit harsh comparison lol.... and for locking the phone so you cant customize it... they have laywers why can they put in a small clause that if you screw with it your at fault changing firmware what not voids warrenty... even right now if I was to take my phone back rooted and things were not working right with it i would have to buy a new phone period... I have a year manufacturer warranty and ya they will know if i've done any of that as well... so I believe I'm right on the money or their money so to speak lol... you sell the phones in the US correct?

I live and work in Canada.

And motorola make their money on hardware. Not partnered software. They sell a "white" device (Think body-in-white, or white box goods, Absolutely devoid of customization) to the carriers and the carriers put their little spin on the software. Telus is significantly better than most, Rogers being the worst in the Canadian market for locking things up and being stupid.

The only thing close to paid crapware on the phone, is quickoffice, and honestly, quick office is useful, if only as a word viewer (Which it does by default) and a word editor if purchased.

Ok I agree with you now, good rebuttal and yes I was pretty much referring to Rogers carrier for that, but my misleading mistake was trying to argue the whole point of most electronic devices not being as open source as I would like. Touche! :)

I think they realize that if it was open then they can't make money and if something can be done for free then why pay? I do understand both sides I just wish they could be some way to choose.. say pay a higher price for an open device to customize to your liking... I would pay alot more money if I had the option to customize it how I like!
