Help text message notification won't go away.

i have a samsung gravity smart & i got a text message last night, and when i go to check it, it's taking to the page where i can create a message. no matter how many times i clear it from the notification bar, it wont go away. it does not appear with the other text messages, only in the notification bar. also, i have tried to take out my phone battery and putting it back it and it still appears. what can i do to make this go away?
