Help Text Messaging app keeps freezing!

Hey everyone. I'm having a bit of an issue with the text messaging app. It ran fine for the first couple of weeks or so, but eventually I got app-happy and noticed that it started lagging more and more. Currently, it's at a point where it freezes within a second or two of scrolling up and down; more specifically between different texts/conversations. I've tried uninstalling facebook and such to clear up some background data, but nothing seems to work. I also previously had advanced task killer installed; could that have been a factor?

Any help is appreciated; I go off to college in a couple days and I kinda sorta REALLY need my texting to work. Thanks!

Log out of Facebook for Android or uncheck the Syncing Contacts option. Then do a soft reboot.

I use handcent which is great and fully customizeable. The only problem i have is when i receive a video, for that i have to use the text messanging app and i have not noticed any problems what-so-ever.
