Texting app with a dedicated number

I've been browsing around trying to figure out what text app to use.it seems like the general consensus is either handcent or chompsms. Both don't seem to give you a personal dedicated number. I've seen textnow on the iphone and you get a 10 digit number that people can save and come back to to text back. Are there any android appsthat does the same? Or is the dedicated number not really needed and to just go with one of the two apps?

If you want a separate number and free texts use Google Voice. You get a lot more than just texts, it's really great. Check it out...can't go wrong with it.
