    is the only good one out there is handcent?

    I use handcent and love it, and chomp is also supposed to be good and very highly rated.

    To define good, you need to specify your needs and what you are looking for.

    myself, I prefer the stock HTC messaging app over the 3rd party ones.

    I like handcent, much snappier than stock. That's the only other one I've heard of until I read about Chomp just now. I'll have to look into it.

    I love Handcent because it comes with speech to text messaging which is a life saver when I'm driving. I just hit the microphone, speak, and click send. I am not sure if Chomp has this feature, I deleted it cause I didn't like the layout as much as I did Handcent.

    I use stock HTC because there's a simple elegance. The stock / default handcent themes are all offensive to my eyes or just plain distracting. Like the conversation views, but I couldn't ever bring myself to fidget long enough with it. Wtb metro style win 7 theme.
