I was persueded to switch to AT&T and get the new Windows Phone 7. My buddy owns an AT&T store and told me he would pay all my early termination fees from verizon and Cox if I switch to AT&T excluslively.

I must say at first I am not easily won by the WP7 phone. Nothing really compares to the Incredible but since I do use Xbox Live, I figure I'll give it a go, I mean after all it is just a phone. My first advice would be stick with Android, it's much more "open". I feel like I'm being choked by the "Steve Jobs" of Windows. No Windows Explorer, No Flash Support (yet but are working towards it), no remote desktop, can't connect manually to a hidden SSID network (seriously?). I hope these things are fixed soon.

On the other note if anyone is in the market for a new Droid Inc. without having to sign a new contract, I have one with a minor scratch on the upper right shoulder, dropped it while it was in the case, figures it would land on the part that wasn't protected. Screen doesn't have a scratch on it. I'm thinking $250, box, instruction books, cables.

Thanks for all your positive input group, I'll probably still frequent to hear what's new. Bye for now.

I have been on the fence about getting a WP7 phone as a companion to my Nexus, just because I like to keep up with technology (aka. toys). I tried the HTC Surround at the AT&T store and was relatively unimpressed ... not with the hardware, which felt like typical HTC, but the interface was uninspiring after only ten minutes. Anyway, all those deficiencies you list plus no custom ringtones or file support for many file types (only sync'ing through zune) kept me from pulling the trigger.

I'd be very curious to hear from someone who actually uses one regularly how the experience is and if you miss those things. Good luck and keep us updated.

After using the HTC Incredible (Inc) for about 2 months and the Windows Phone 7 (WP7) for about a 2 weeks I can honestly say the only thing they really have in common is that I can call someone. J

With that being said, let’s brake it down to the pros and cons.

    Pros – WP7
    • Very simple easy to manage user interface
    • Incorporates all your contacts from all sources into your contact list, (Windows Live, Facebook, Outlook, etc.)
    • Apps normally guaranteed to work, (….oxymoron?)
    • Xbox Live games and achievements for gamers.
    • Wireless is category N.
    • Little bigger screen than the Inc.
    • Ability to set anything to the start menu, a single contact for example, similar to the Favorites widget on the Inc.
    • Does not display “Send a Message” action to home numbers in contacts, only numbers defined as mobile have the option to receive texts.

Cons – WP7 so far in order of importance to me.
    • No notification LED on the Samsung Focus. I have to turn the phone on to see if I missed something, email, call or text.
    • Cannot connect to a hidden SSID wifi network.
    • When playing a game, the buttons are so touch sensitive, that I usually end up brushing my finger over the search, windows or back buttons which cause the game to close. When you reload the game you don’t start where you left off, it starts the game from the beginning again.
    • Hitting number on the dial pad doesn’t display any corresponding names or numbers, for example if you were looking for Joe, typing 563 would bring up his name in the phone app on the Inc. Likewise hittine 563 does not bring up any corresponding numbers that have 563 in the number.
    • When searching the market place, there is no way to distinguish if you are searching for an Application, Song, Artist, etc. Searching for “Google” brought up %90 song/artists and only 2 apps out of 40. I had to scroll through to find what I wanted.
    • Have to use Zune to copy files onto the phone.
    • No flash support
    • No File explorer
    • No personal sound customization, ringtones, alerts, alarms.
    • Micro SD slot is not recommended for use yet. Apparently the slot is frying generic cards. Once you put the card in the phone and format it using their strict directions, the card can no longer be used anywhere else, something to do with the RAM, search if you don’t believe me (Samsung Focus Micro SD Card).
    • Can’t make calls from the Messages application like you can in Android.
    • Interface is lacking excitement, no way to make it your own except put shortcuts on an up and down start menu.
    • No Home screens.
    • No unlimited Data package with AT&T anymore.
    • Can not see the Address bar in Internet Explorer when in landscape mode.
    • No Forward button in Internet Explorer.
    • Pinching to zoom in and out on IE sometimes causes text input fields to not display it’s contents.
    • Only one volume control for all types of sounds, Multimedia, Ringer, alarms where as Inc allow you to control them separately
    • No menu button. The three that are there, Back, Windows, And Search really leave me to wonder where do I go to modify settings for a specific app I’m running. It was easy on the Inc.
    • Some things are not easily found for example to delete multiple emails from the email app, you hit the left hand side of the subject (near the edge of the screen) and a check mark appears. I kind of stumbled upon that one. Maybe it was in the manual but who reads the manual when you’re a techy guy like me.
If you have any questions just ask…..

And I may just keep my Inc so I can go back to Verizon when I get fed up with this W7P.O.S.

I'll add more as I think of them.

No Third part keyboard support, so looks like swype will not be coming to WP7 as of current.

This is true. But remember I only switched cause I was bought into it. :)

Oh and I can stream my DVR'd shows from my AT&T Uverse DVR to my phone..... on Wifi of course, cause I'll go over my 2 gig limit. :)

Oh and I wasn't arguing that fact, I actually praise the Inc over WP7 right now. And I have the best phone out so far with WP7, I think?

Honestly I'm not at liberty to compare the phones as I haven't tested a windows phone since April 2010 even though I hated it.

I think the big loss is switching to AT&T but obviously many will disagree. I feel like I get much better connectivity, both data and calling then I did both AT&T and T-Mobile.

And of course the data limit is a big thing if you stream or use the free wifi tethering when rooted. Verizon 3g unlimited is very nice in that aspect. Probably could say the same for Sprint.

Hearing about the direction WP7 was headed was the biggest thing that pushed me towards Android. I had an HTC Touch (Verizon XV6900) before and was looking at the Imagio or Touch Pro 2. When I read about WP7 I decided it was time to jump ship. I've never looked back, but your description makes me feel even better about my choice.

    Glad I could help.

The sad reality is that these guys wanted to relieve me of my Early Termination Fees to get me on WP7 so I could promote it, but I don't have very many positive things to say about it except that it has Xbox Live Games.

Yeah, I don't do xbox, so even that is no draw to me. Good luck. I hope you can either find a way to make it work for you, or find a way to come back into the fold.;)

    wow.. thanks for your review..

I was watching youtube of windows 7...

it looks great.. the graphics animations..
but then I was watching how it worked.. as a phone.. as a smartphone... and I thought....
It looked very single minded... one track... down one road...then go back.. go different road. In other words, you can not do what you want. you are stuck in a track. Not flexible. Looks very simple presentation...with lots of animation to wow you.

Thanks for the comparison Joe, I can say that I will NEVER go down the W7 phone path!!! It seems to be able to do 1/5 of what Android does, lol.

It seems to have way too many negatives!!! I hope the battery life is better since you don't do as much on it! lol

It's nice to see people being nice in this thread. I posted a similar one when leaving precentral and just about got crucified. It seems people had been learning etiquette from the school of crackberry. Good luck with WP7, there's a lot I like about it, and just keep in mind a pretty major update is supposed to be coming in January that will help prune that con list down. It still won't be open like android but it is what it is.
