So we have 3 official/announced/released androids on AT&T with the Moto Backflop, the HTC Aria and the Samsung Captivate

In the initial announcement, AT&T said they would have 5 by year end, and that one would be the Dell Aero

Well, that phone has yet to materialize and from the previews I've seen, looks like it sucks. Do we think the 5th AT&T android will be in the same class as the Captivate, or a lesser device?

I'm holding out hope for an upscale HTC device, but then again, this Captivate may have the high end Android on AT&T cornered

    Thoughts?

The 5th one could be the Dell Streak, which would make two from Dell, the Streak and Aero, though I'm starting to wonder if the Aero actually exists, because next to nothing has been seen or heard about it since its initial anouncement a few months ago.

If you count the two Dells, you have 5 phones, which I guess would fulfill that allotment. There is always the possibility we see a version of the HTC Desire, as it has cleared the FCC with AT&T bands, but that's more likely going to Canadian carriers, and I wouldn't hold my breath for an AT&T version. Beyond that, there doesn't appear to be much on the horizon, at least that we've seen yet, I'm betting the Streak and Captivate will be the two highest end Android phones we'll see from AT&T this year, which isn't too bad. I'm going for the Captivate, because while the Streak is intriguing, the size is a little too big for me for a phone, plus the Android 1.6 turns me off from it too.

unfortunately for us, the actual announcement by the CEO of AT&T mobility was that they would have 5 phones released by end of Q2 2010...that time has since come and passed....

I thought that was the case, but I couldn't remember for sure. I can't say I'm too surprised, AT&T seems for the most part to be content as being the iPhone carrier that also offers some other phones. I'm just glad, as someone who is pretty much stuck on AT&T for the foreseeable future, that they at least decided to throw those of us who are on AT&T, but don't want an iPhone, a decent phone.

If the rumors are true that AT&T is also going to soon start selling the Streak, that would give them 4 Android phones not too far past the Q2 deadline, and if you count the announcement of the Aero, that would give them the 5 at least announced, but the Aero seems to have disappeared from the face of the earth.

For the record, those 3 are actually the only THREE currently available on the At&t site and this is the last week of July not end of Q2

Whether either of the Dell devices EVER make it to a store is questionable after today's Dell fiasco

...and if none of those do it for you, and you can make due w/o a subsidy:

    1) Motorola Sholes (AT&T 3G version XT701)
    2) HTC Paradise (supposedly AT&T 3G)
    3) Milestone/Milestone 2 (v2 has to be coming in light of Droid 2 release)

    Not really

Yes, you can buy a Dell Streak and yes it supports At&t networks, but At&t and no reseller sells the Streak. You won't find any reference to the device on the At&t site. I am sure there are other devices that might work on a At&t network, but they are not what At&t promised months ago.

On At&t's site today, there are actually only FOUR android devices available almost 7 weeks AFTER the end of the 2nd Qtr.

    Motorola Backflip
    HTC Aria
    Sony Xperia X10
    Samsung Captivate

If you go to their "Android Phones" page and scroll down to the bottom of the list, you will see the Dell Aero, but it is NOT for sale on their site.

Hmm AT&T put the Aero on their Facebook but you are right, that and the Streak must be bought through Dell (both can be purchased with 2-year contract).

My guess is, AT&T is counting them. So 6 Androids on AT&T.

It is. The Streak has been released and is available for purchase at Dell.com or by calling them. I know because I bought mine from there, and it works beautifully.

That is correct, you can NOT buy a Streak from At&t or any reseller, you can only get it directly from Dell in the US market. It is NOT available through At&t.

In regards to the subject, I only count devices that At&t sells and that promise was for 2nd Qtr which ended June 30th.

Unfortunately, I really don't think ATT cares what YOU think counts.

I count SIX, because you buy them ON CONTRACT with AT&T (Nexus One does not count because you could never have gotten a subsidy on it)

    1) Motorola Backflop
    2) HTC Aria
    3) Samsung Captivate
    4) Dell Streak
    5) Dell Aero
    6) Sony Ericsson Xperia X10

It still took them 2 months past the promised date to get 5. Fail.

I agree, they only care what their stockholders and the Street think. Making promises that you don't uphold only matters to them.

At&t stock took a dive at the end of the 2Qtr, one that should have been their best Quarter of the year with the Iphone4 coming out in late June. It has been on the rise since then.
