I keep reading all this news about the Nexus S and various new Samsung devices and I'm wondering what the future of the Fascinate will be? Are we going to be kept up to date with the new devices or be left in the dust? I mean, is the Nexus S' hardware that much different than the Galaxy S devices, will we enjoy the same support/updates?

the nexus s will be supporting by google, and it doesnt really apply a whole lot to us.

i think if we just get froyo at some point in the not too distant future a lot can be done with it by some smart people and we ll be ok :)

officially id call it a less than 50% chance (i base this just on my own speculation)

gingerbread built from froyo by devs? better chance that that

At Samsung's rate, you'd see Gingerbread next Christmas if at all :p

haha your probably right...the only reason i put it so high was that samsung has had 2.3 forever...so you would *think* they might do it just cuz theyve had it and know it

but i put more faith in bird and company building it from froyo

I think its even higher than that. Samsung has sold far too many SGS phones to abandon them like they have other phones in the past. If they abandon the SGS phones after froyo they will be killing any chances of keeping a huge user base. Not even samsung is that dumb.

Yeah good point, I suppose the global SGS might see 2.3 in the spring but us on vzw not nearly as soon. I know many of us will be mass exodusing once we can have a dual core lte phone in the summer or whenever they are available. Myself it wont be till September but thats ok too since I might not have lte until then

    If there's a Verizon Nexus S, I guarantee we'll see Gingerbread.

Just maybe not an official one...

I can say with 100% confidence that this phone will get gingerbread, there is no reason it wouldn't get it.

Yeah, from my experience with Verizon, they're real slow to update.

My experience from the WinMo world is that you generally only get one major upgrade to a phone in its life with a carrier. Of course, this is in the official terminology, and WM was not updated nearly as frequently as Android has been ... If a CDMA Gingerbread build gets leaked, the devs will find a way to get it out there. None of us rely on the carriers, anyway!!

there of course is a rumor (there always is) that there will be an lte nexus on vzw in february or march. i tend to doubt that....as really verizon has no incentive to carrier a dev phone, and seems to run counter to what they are trying to do with android

unless you work for samsung in an upper level position, you cant guarantee something like that

yup, but again ill put my faith in gingerbread being built from froyo...if all goes well of course :)

For all those not rooted, we'll they are already left in the dust, not to be sarcastic here, but that is pretty much a fact.

For myself, this will probably be my last Samsung phone, once lte hits my area I will most likely go back to HTC.
Samsung as opposed to HTC just seems to have their hands in to many pieces of pie, look at all the products they make. With all of that going on I doubt that making sure their phones have the latest and greatest software on them is low on their priority list. To an extent, pushing out phones as fast as they can in this cut throat business will always be priority # 1 no matter how many bugs or what software it comes loaded with.
This SF has been a real joy and will still be for awhile, but its not my wife and soon enough it will be time to move on to greener pastures. I think it will be alot of fun deciding which company in the future will get my hard earned dollars.
In the mean time, can't wait to get my hands of the froyo leak !

htc attempts to block permaroot on their phones with nand lock...so far its been bested by the dev community (lately on the g2/desire hd, mt4g)...but i really believe they ll get better and better at it until it takes so long to get root, it wont be worth doing

I'm kind of standoffish with how Samsung has handled all this update thing. Sure, it's great that you can root relatively easily but compared to how HTC is handling the updates I'm unsure if I'll look to Sammy for my next phone.

On top of that ever since I messed with my wife's cousin's Evo 4G I've been a little envious, that is one slick phone...

Everyone here is stating opinion, for me this is a crystal clear thing. We will get the update, there is literally no reason that i can conjure in a realistic world that would get in the way of us getting it. We aren't talking if, we are talking when.
