I absolutely love swype. However most of the world doesn't know what swype is and hasn't used it. So they have no clue that typos are now entire words and not just letters. Leads to some hilarious yet awkward messages. Example..my friend asked me if I knew so and so. My reply was supposed to be yeah..but it came out trash. Sigh..lol guess I need to slow down and proof read a bit more.

lol, I've had my fair share of awkward moments because of swype. My only frustration is that I can swype to the exact letters of the word I'm trying to spell out and it puts something ridiculous on screen.

Swype learns you know... If you tap out a word and notice that Swype decided to place the wrong one via auto-correction, then correct it yourself, Swype will remember that when you try to type it the second time and thereafter.

    RTFM.

I don't know if it's because I'm an older guy, but I've found I prefer the multitouch keyboard to swype.

Not sure you comprehended my post. Trash and yeah have virtually the same path. Yes I'm aware of adding words to the dictionary doesn't stop swype from picking the wrong wordin fact the more words in the dictionary the more chances of this occurring. Also why the rude comment? RTFM? Next time try understanding what your reading, k?

I agree. With my old Omnia 1, I did prefer texting in landscape, because of the screen size, but with my Droid X, I also prefer swyping in portrait.

I love swype, but hate that it has a hard time with the smaller words. Big words are no problem.

Plus I cant seem to get it to behave right for words with double letters back to back. (wall, call, need/needs, too, etc..)

Maybe I'm missing something and need to RTFM too lol.

That's one reason why I don't type landscape with swype.

It would be nice if u could set swype to be the default input for portrait and mulitouch for landscape.

I understood what I read and I understand what I'm reading right now. Swype learns from its mistakes. I'm not talking about the dictionary. That's completely different. I don't even know the full extent of algorithms or processes that the developers used in creating this portion of the Swype feature, but I know for a fact that it's far better than just reading from the dictionary file.

RTFM is just an acronym. Just because you imagine one of the words as being offensive, it doesn't mean that the poster using it is meaning it in a derogatory manner. I said it because I meant it literally. I don't even have my Droid X yet and I've already gone through the entire manual. I want to know everything that I can do with the device. I'm already skimming through it a second time to make sure I didn't miss anything important. Apart from the manual, you can Google around if you like and find the same results. Swype is more, "intelligent," than you might think. Hell, the entire operating system is, let alone just one feature.

Maybe you should try to understand what you're reading next time, because you misunderstood my attitude and what I was saying. I didn't mean offense and there was no reason for you to take what I said personally, or to react with a snarky attitude. I like this forum, especially these Droid X boards, because of most everyone's friendliness toward each other. If you don't want to act nice, then please don't bother posting.

    EDIT:

I share some of the frustrations but still find swype to be incredible, I think it is the best Droid App out there. I am a pretty fast touch typist but swype is much faster yet. Swift Key is awesome as well, I just think I'm a bit faster with swype. I think there'll come a day before too long that you'll see touch keyboards for computers that utilize swype or something similar to it.

swype to [space bar] [period] no space bar [period] Son-of-a.

I wish there's an option to take off the tutorial key and get a bigger space bar key

Sigh..again you do not understand. Look at the word yeah and trash on your keyboard, no algorithm is going to correct two words with virtually identical paths. I can type yeah over and over it continuously asks, Utah, Yeah, or Trash. The paths to type them are too close. This is NOT an RTFM, this is an un correctable problem. Again you are being rude and you are completely incorrect. I give up on you.maybe once you actually own the device you will understand. As far as me not being nice, you told me to RTFM, and gave me incorrect information. think about who got "snarky". :)

Yeah, you should proof read regardless of input method! :)

Or, if it's acceptable, you could always add a "typo mea culpa" in your email signature, so your recipients know you typed it out on your phone and are more tolerant of errant words/letters.

samg916, I think what paycer is trying to say is that if you continually type yeah and swype gives you trash and you continually correct it to be yeah, that swype will learn that and start giving you yeah originally.

I think he's wrong, but at least that's what I interpret what he's saying.

I'd love to have Paycer explain exactly what he means about swype's learning ability.

Found Swype to be very awdward at first, but after reading so many great reviews I decided to stick with it. Now after a couple of weeks I love it and will never go back to pecking. Yes, the more you use it the fewer wrong words will be placed by Swype, so your speed keeps increasing.

I have started to use the MT keyboard because swype pisses me off sometimes. I can't stand when you spent all the time to type the longer word just find that it didn't register the first contact point as the correct letter you intended, leaving Swype to come up with something entirely different.

Also, the flaming on the site has got to stop, we're all just using a cell phone's input method here. No need to become engulfed in passion over such a moot issue.

Multi-touch FTW...with such a large screen, swyping is a nuisance to me.

I tried the beta of Swype on my Droid 1 about 3 - 4 months ago. Stuck with it for a while but could never get the accuracy up. Also, the pop up suggestion window was a pain.

Saw in a forum that a lot of people liked SlideIt. I tried it and like it a lot. Just put it as my default on my DX and it's even more accurate with the bigger screen.

Actually SlideIt was a major factor in moving to the DX since I didn't need a physical keyboard any more.

If you like the theory of Swype, but not necessarily Swype itself, give SlideIt a try.

BTW. Is Swype out of beta now?

Cool, too, are my least favorite words to swype. Getting used to it still, btw...there is always a disconnect between the manual and actually using the device,if there weren't who would need IT people? Lol

I swyped all this btw (try swyping swyped) ha!

+1 on SlideIt! I tried it thanks to Stevezz44's recommendations and I like it a lot! Kind of a steep price, especially for those of us who have the DX with Swype already preinstalled. I like that SlideIt has no lag like Swype and also seems to have an easier time with double letters. Might end up purchasing it anwyay.
