The Photon 4G Pre-Order Info Thread

man my head is spinning, so many choices so little time lol

Ok, on an upgrade on a phone that is out of contract, would the Wire fly/Slick deals offer sound the best or is there another one better.

Also, regardless of deal or price, if one orders on Sunday, how soon would they get the phone in their hands?

TS out

Typically don't most legit companies always have the pre orders at your door the day they come out? I thought that was just kind of a standard thing....but maybe it's just Amazon.

**EDIT**

Wow totally forgot about the Sunday thing it just slipped my mind. In that case wouldn't it be at your door on Monday?

From your earlier post it seems Sprint or Best buy is a safer choice. Wirefly and I believe Amazon also requires the phone to stay on the contract line for at least 180 days. Which means you can't use ur kids upgrade and switch it over to your number without penalty in the first 180 days.

If you order on Sunday with next day shipping, it will ship Monday and get there Tuesday, two day / Wednesday. However, if you pre-order you might get it as soon as Monday. Depending on if they are allowed to ship early so it arrives on or just after the release date in this case.

Really? That seems strange to me. How does the 3rd party seller have override over Sprint's Gold Premiere program?

If that is the case, looks like Best Buy will be my choice.

Here's something interesting regarding Best Buy not having a pre-order. They have an accessories page for any accessories that can be used for the photon!...LOL. How do you have an accessories page, but no pre-order for the phone? That's the funniest ish I've ever seen for sales
New Motorola Photon 4G Accessories - Best Buy Mobile Accessories

Is it possible that they aren't going to carry the Photon yet? I don't see why they wouldn't but with the release being a week & a half away & it not even showing "coming soon" on BB's website....it makes no sense!

Damn, sometimes patience doesn't pay off. Seems like Wirefly might have taken this down already, so $149 isn't in play anymore.

Looks like it'll be a choice between Amazon or Best Buy. Amazon upgrade would save me about $50 since they don't charge tax.

Still looks like its working! At least for me. I just checked it out. I'm thinking this is the way to go, but like another on here(can't remember who) I'm curious when I would actually get the phone? Also - has anyone else had any trouble going through the friends and family site, even though they have no friends or family who are employed there?

Thanks, Stoked to get the Photon. FINALLY Sprint has a top of the line android WORLD PHONE!

WOOT.

Somebody had mentioned that Wirefly and Amazon requires the phone staying activated on the line for 18 months, but I don't know exactly how they'd be able to override Sprint's Gold Premiere program. Nontheless, I tried the link again and it's still showing this error for me:

yeah weird. I got that error when I tried the link, but just going to the page and searching the photon gets me there fine.

I saw the mention about the 18months..... I'm inclined to agree with you that they shouldn't be able to override the Sprint Premier status.... at any rate, I bet I could just talk some sense into the Sprint CSR and take care of it at that time.... having the 11yr tenure comes in handy most times. :)

FWIW I found this on the Wirefly Website

INSTANT SAVINGS DISCOUNTS
Wirefly promises you savings in the form of instant discounts with no rebates or gimmicks when you sign up for wireless carrier service on a 2 year agreement. Delivering on this promise means that you must agree to maintain your agreement for a minimum of 6 months after activation. Deactivating your phone, or downgrading features or the rate plan, may lead to additional charges.

To provide you with significant savings vs. buying in a retail store, the price you paid for your device includes an Instant Savings Discount from Wirefly.

By accepting this Instant Savings Discount, you agree to repay $200 of this discount ($350 for smartphones, tablets, and netbooks) and authorize us to charge your credit card in repayment of this amount if, you signed up for a 2 year agreement and during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, your wireless carrier notifies us that the services you purchased have been suspended, disconnected, or deactivated, or if you return your purchase outside of the return and exchange provisions of our 30-day Satisfaction Guarantee.

Please note some of the reasons your wireless carrier may notify us of a deactivation include if:

You transfer this equipment to another carrier line of service after it is activated
You change your rate plan to a lower monthly service rate than was specifically required at the point of purchase
You deactivate texting/data features that were specifically required at the point of purchase
The new line of service activated with your order is used to replace a pre-existing account
PRICING ERRORS
Despite our best efforts, a small number of the items offered by us from time to time may be mispriced. If an item's correct price is higher than our stated price, we will, at our discretion, either contact you for instructions before shipping or cancel your order and notify you of such cancellation.

Interesting......

Interesting......

Hmmm, with that stipulation, I think I may be leaning towards either the early Sprint purchase or Best Buy...possibly Amazon, if they don't have the same stipulation as Wirefly. I'm only holding out for Best Buy to confirm that they're actually going to have the phone on launch. Otherwise, it'll be my first upgrade directly through Sprint in years!

I think I'm considering the same. Although I would probably plan to keep the phone for 18 months anyway, being tied to a carrier is bad enough - I don't want to be tied to Wirefly as well..... I usually prefer to go through BB.

Actually, after reading this more, do you think that this is just Wirefly passing on the carrier ETF? I mean, I would guess that if Wirefly signs you up, and you terminate early, the carrier goes after Wirefly for the ETF. So perhaps this is really just the same as the carrier ETF and therefore, my Gold Premier status would actually carry through?

I think I might call Wirefly and confirm....

No. Its 2 separate contracts and 2 separate penalties. $200 from Sprint and $200 from Wirefly. This is why they can offer phones for a penny.

Yep - came to that conclusion after reading a bit more around the web. BUT I was initially under the impression (for some reason) that it was 18months. It's actually just 180 days. So if I am reading this right, the 2 year agreement they are referring to is the CARRIER agreement, and the WF agreement is just 180 days...

....repayment of this amount if, you signed up for a 2 year agreement and during the 181 days after your new equipment is activated, your wireless carrier notifies us that the services you purchased have been suspended, disconnected, or deactivated.....

Also it's not 200.00, its 350.00 for smartphones.

I might pull the trigger with Wirefly....

Still, can't anyplace cheaper than 200.

Edit: just realized that 2 out of 4 of my devices gets $150 each off toward a new phone but on Aug 1 and beyond. So I'm going to have to wait regardless.

TS

TS, if Sprint is an option for you, I have absolutely NO doubt that they'd be willing to change the date for you, so that you could get the phone on the day of release.

If the release date is Sunday July 31 and many say that being a Sprint Premier customer you can usually get the phone a few days before that (I believe someone mentioned Thursday July 28th) then that would mean today would be exactly 1 week from then. But yet Sprint has no mention of it as of now. So just how long can they wait to open this up to allow people to order and them to package it and get it ready for shipping for next week?

Sprint stated it clearly in their press release on July 13.

Sprint Newsroom | Motorola PHOTON 4G Debuts on July 31 for $199.99

2nd paragraph
Sprint Premier Customers will have the opportunity to purchase Motorola PHOTON 4G
