    columbus,oh.
i went to t-mobile today and checked out the vibrant. here are things i
like and things i did not like.
i do not like that there is NO notification light, i really found this to be
a huge oversight. i guess you can say "oh big deal", but it really
bugged the hell out of me. i do not like that there is no flash on the
camera, i know again people will say "big deal", but i find it to be
unacceptable. the next thing i did not like is my personal preference,
yours of course will vary, the phone looks like an absolute 100%
clone of the iphone 3gs. as i said, it may not bother some, but it
just didn't sit right with me, even the t-mobile girl said it bugged the
crap out of her. as for no front facing camera, i really could care less
    about that.
i will say that the vividness of the screen was very nice, i absolutely
give it props, but i can not get past what it is lacking.
i am passing on this unit, although for some peolple it will be fine.
i am banking on the "htc vision" comig out in the last quarter.
this phone is to be the ultimate, so we'll see.

I've read that people found the night mode to be acceptable in replacement of the LED flash for the camera.

I love the phone but I kmow what u are talking about with the flash. I came from a cliq so any thing is an upgrade to that. I dont like the lack of weight. It feels entirely too light. but again, anything is an upgrade rom that cliq

I think the flash just shows how spoiled we've all become... I didn't have flash forever on my phone (SK 2008). Then I dropped it in the toilet. I got a blackberry storm with a flash and it was nice... but I don't take enough pictures for it to be big enough of an issue.

I have a real camera that can blow away any cell phone camera for years to come... unless they figure out how to fit a DSLR inside a phone...

when your stranded on the highway and it is pitch black outside, flash becomes important. The led feature is only useful when you really need it. I think it's great for the camera, but there are other functions for it also. Works great if you ever lose electricity at home also.

yes, but the reason for a flashlight can be solved by a $2 led keychain, so I dont really see the point

I don't like the small amount of widgets and shortcuts preloaded on the phone. I had a mytouch slide for a couple of weeks before this and it had a lot more that made the phone easier to use. I also prefer the hard buttons on the slide. The internet displayed better on the slide (more pages came up and came up the right size, formatted to screen), and the back button on the slide worked much better. It was heavier though and the screen on this puppy is much clearer. Also there is more storage space on this phone. The speed has been about the same.

I've only read that claim on androidforums, but if you visit the samsung galaxy forum, where people/developers who have owned the galaxy for a few weeks now say the versions of the phone without flash do not take good photos in dark settings.

Find me a phone with a flash that actually takes good pictures at night. They don't exist. The night mode is plenty to get you by if you must take pictures at night. Otherwise get a real camera.

The Mytouch slide takes pretty decent pictures in the dark.

I also miss my genius button on that phone. The dragon dictation was spot on. I could simply press button on the face of the phone and say "send text John I am running late" and it would. I miss that so much already. I added the voice dial widget to my home screen and it NEVER understands what I am saying.

I got my vibrant yesterday and I must say this phone is awesome.... I've never experienced any "lag", The screen is simply amazing, I love the UI as well (I know some people hate it), The iphone looks do not bother me at all, The phone is very lite (love this) it feel perfect in my hands whenever i make a phone call (not to big nor to heavy sounded wrong lol). The only thing I Would change about this phone is the charger placement whenever I'm playing a game and I don't have any battery the charger seems to be in the way... Also battery life is killing me dramatically but I was browsing through the site and I found out once rooted I can get an overclocking widget to extend the battery life.. Overall I don't regret buying this phone I love it..

I really wonder if the lack of notification light was truly an oversight or done on purpose. I have a feeling they just totally forgot about it, then remembered to put it in the epic. that would be funny.

Yeah, ive seen some pics with the night mode and the flash on the Fasinate, or whichever has it and the night mode was just as good if not better. The flash is an absolute no big deal for me.

LED notification could of been a nice addition but i really find the notifiications on this phone to be very good even without a light. Coming from an iPhone, the notifications on the Vibrant is way better.

i understand why you dont like the phone...so my advice is to not buy it!

I would switch to sprint and get an epic if it werent for the stupidly large and loose/wiggly keyboard. My friend has an Epic 4G and the keyboard feels like trash, specially compared to my G2's keyboard.

My personal preference, if the G2 had the camera and GPU that the vibrant has, i would switch parties. However, while i LOVE the g2, the camera and GPU just arent up to snuff.

As for the LED flash, its nice, and i can see a use for it every great now and then but its by no means a deal breaker. Try using a phone with an LED flash at night...good luck getting a decent picture beyond 6 foot.

Now that you mention it, it's quite possible that it was done on purpose. The The Behold 2 didn't have one either. Coming from the G1 that was kind of a pain as I set up the G1 to flash different colors depending on what notification I had as I always left the phone on vibrate at work. I would gladly do the same thing with the Vibrant if I could. Thankfully the vibrate function on this phone is significantly more powerful than the G1 and Behold so I just leave the phone on my desk and if the screen lights up, it means I got a text, phone call, or voice mail.

  17. If thats all the flash is useful for then look up "Color Flashlight" in the market place. The screen on the phone is brilliant as a flashlight. Better than any flashlight app I've seen that uses a flash as a light.

I also believe that flashes on cell phone cameras suck really badly and wash out the images. The night shot mode on the vibrant is pretty bad ass.

    Just saying.

As was previously stated: Night Mode is more than acceptable for dark shots (I can attest to this), and the Behold II didn't have a notification LED either, so it was probably intentional.

Also.... This thread was from almost four months ago ;->

For phones that are equipped with an LED flash, it is NOT recommended to use the flashlight apps which turn the LED flash into a "flashlight." There is no heatsink on the LED flash, it is designed to be on for about 1/60th of a second. period. Run it for longer and you are asking for trouble.

And finally, LED flash on a cell phone camera is useful for 5-6 feet max, after that it's a joke. Under that and the pics are usually overexposed.

First, please get your facts straight before you decide to litter the forums with junk.

-The Vibrant doesn't have a front facing camera all though I bet you will complain about that too.

-If the camera flash and lack of LED are really that unacceptable then MOVE ON! Go get yourself the G2 which IS the HTC Vision.

-And PLEASE learn correct grammer and punctuation if you plan on getting through to anyone here.

I've read thousand upon thousands of posts over the past 4 months...I'm certain I've lost innumerable brain cells trying to decipher the spelling, punctuation and grammar of those...er, less educated or perhaps attentive to detail, shall we say? It's brutal.

Although I agree with the post (because truthfully it does no good to come onto the vibrant threads and voice how much you don't like the phone), I must say that if you are going to attack the OP about his grammar, perhaps spelling the word "grammar" correctly would be in your best interest...

    Just saying.

    Can I get an amen???

You didn't capitalize "Vibrant." It is a proper name you know. :D
