I have had my evo for a week now and I feel like I should be using it a lot more than I should. I guess I really only use a phone for texting, and occasional email, camera, internet, youtube etc. It has been my first android phone and I like it a lot. I just don't think I am using the evo enough for it to be worth it. I do not like the extra 10$ a month and it is kind of big. I was wondering what you guys thought about me switching from the evo to the hero and whether it would be a good idea or not. The only thing I am worried about is the size of the touchscreen keyboard on the hero, cuz I still have a little trouble since the evo is my first touchscreen keyboard. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks! :)

    Keep the Evo.

You'll likely be very disappointed if you downgrade to the Hero.
    disclaimer: I love my Hero

Please don't downgrade. Try something a tad bit smaller like a Nexus 1 or Incredible. The Hero is good but has to many problems. SERIOUSLY!

I am kind of surprised by these responses, I thought since I dont use my evo that much (or phone really but for text and occasional internet) having an evo wouldnt make any sense

I never thought I would see someone wanting to trade their Sprint HTC EVO 4G for a Sprint HTC Hero. I agree the $10 extra a month is basically what killed the whole idea for me owning one. Well, that and the fact I only got my Sprint HTC Hero a few months ago. The form factor is a bit too big for tastes as well.

I think you should give your Sprint HTC EVO 4G a week or two more of testing to see if you really do not like it and then decide if you want to switch to something else. You might regret switching after only a short jaunt with the handset.

There are plenty of people that don't use their phones for everything they are capable of and there is nothing wrong with that. :)

Actually the Hero is probably more than you need too. I have found that the Android/Smart phones are a lot more complicated than regular phones...........I dont use most of the features either. Sometimes I have thought about switching back to my Instinct just because of this so I understand your situation.

To be honest i was playing with the evo today in the sprint store, and while certain apps where faster like the browser and maps (browser speeds were within 2-3 seconds of each other, maps was a complete blowout though) the phones arent too far apart in the performance department. In your situation, i would reccomend the switch because even though it is slightly slower it gets the job done for me quite nicely and by your description your a light user. Depending on who you are, you might even prefer the size of the hero to the evo. However if given the choice between the two phones i would choose the evo. Love my hero though.

On a side note if you decide to switch, you can sell the evo on ebay for $500 + and get a used hero for around $200 or even a new one for somewhere around that.

I really wanted the evo but was told 4 g is prob 2 yrs away from getting it where i live..

Why are people calling tech support because they made a mistake? If you don't have 4g in your area and don't wanna pay the $10, don't get the phone, simple as that.

On topic: The hero is a perfectly capable phone. It may lag a bit and be somewhat glitchy, but I'm sure the Evo is not perfect either. Do what you think is right OP, either phone is a good choice.

Pacer, I don't think it's a dumb idea at all. It does sound like you may have a bit of buyers remorse, though.

Owning a smart phone boils down to personal choice and satisfaction. You need to find out what makes you happy about both phones and decide based on the features you think you can live with.

It also depends a bit on your "techiness", too, I guess. Personally, I am satisfied with my 1.5 Hero version, especially after reading about some of the issues that people had upgrading their phones to 2.1. I haven't experienced any lag and I think the Hero is pretty cool with all of the apps that I installed. I am most likely in the minority when it comes to things like "rooting", having the latest and greatest "ROM", etc. I got the Hero after using a standard Motorola "non-smart" phone for about 4 years. I wanted Touch and I got it. I wanted cools apps and I got them. I wanted internet access and multimedia and I got all that with the Hero.

What makes you happy? What can you live with? Answer those questions and your choice is easy!

    I'll give you $101! Seriously...

Truth be told, the Hero is a plenty capable phone. I'm running Andriod 2.1 with all the latest updates and LauncherPro Beta. It's much faster and smoother than with the original 1.5 OS, more stable and with LauncherPro looks a heckuva lot cleaner in my opinion. Internet is fast enough for 90% of the users out there, camera is still great for such a small package and while the processor is a little dated it still gets the job done without any fuss.

With what you use it for, downgrading to a Hero would only net you $10 a month and a slightly smaller form factor. If you don't need or want smart phone features than I would suggest at looking at going to a feature phone.

I have met a lot of people that have purchased a smart phone because of the sales hype and are very unhappy and frustrated with their phones. A lot of people simply don't need or want a phone that tries to do everything their laptop does and would prefer a phone that does two or three basic things flawlessly every time.

    That bing said,

I'll trade you for my Hero and $102

For $120 per year, and with your apparent requirements, I would get the Hero.

I have fat fingers, and I do just fine with the Hero's touch screen. I have just started using the Swype beta, and it would help a lot regardless of phone.

I almost bought the Evo after doing the 2.1 update and started experiencing a lot of problems. But after the ota update my phone is running almost flawlessly but I can live with it. Looking at the Evo it just seems to me that its the same Android platform in a bigger shell. Sure its 4g and it might be faster but the $10 a month extra is not worth it to me. I mean come on, you wanna pay more just to have a page load 2-3 seconds faster? Just my opinion. I'm perfectly happy with my hero.
