    Hi,
I'm new here and I was thinking of getting the droid. I'm currently using a BB Curve which is a fine phone, but I'm not loving it. I'm actually trying to decide between the Incredible and the Moto Droid. I know the INc is super super fast and has some cool features, but I don't need a phone that has that kind of speed. I also don't need to have the latest "gotta have" phone. The droid has been out now or 5-6 months so for those of you who've had the phone for the past 5-6 months, do you still love you phone? I also love the slide out keyboard...even though I've heard about the issues w/ the flat keys. I've always wanted the droid, but I couldn't upgrade back in Nov. I'll be able to do an early upgrade in June. I'm brand new to the Android os and can't wait to try it out! :)

PS: I'm hoping that VZW drops the price on the Moto Droid. I feel like I should get the INc for $200 :/

I still love my droid (and I came from a BB Curve also) but if I was buying a new phone now, I'd get the Incredible. Personally, it's not even about the better internal hardware performance - It's about not having this horrible physical keyboard (which I NEVER use) to weigh the thing down.

If you're not a super phone geek like a lot of us around here, just think of the Incredible as a Droid without the physical keyboard (more or less). Yes, the Droid is slower. Yes, the Incredible screen isn't as good as the Droid. Yes, the Droid is running "raw" Android and the Incredible has HTC's Sense UI, but at the end of the day, I think the keyboard is where most people will make their decisions.

Whatever you choose, keep in mind that you have 30 days to play with it and return/exchange it for something else. Good luck!

I came from a Curve to a Droid and it's awesome. I know little about the Incredible other than it is twice the speed as the Droid (stock for stock) and has more memory.

Bottom line here, is - you want a physical keyboard? Prices will come down on Moto, Moto should have minimal issues unlike brand new releases.
Also lots of support for Moto on these forums.

I'd buy the incredible and probably will. I love my Droid, but I rarely use the physical keyboard. Also the camera on the Droid is pretty awful. What I do like about the Droid is the solid construction, I have dropped this phone so many times and it just keeps going. I really doubt the Incredible could withstand my carelessness.

I love the DROID, but I too NEVER use the physical keyboard, and would go with the Incredible if I had a do-over.

Like mentioned above, if you're not going to geek out on it, then the phones are virtually the same, so the keyboard is gonna make the difference. The speed on the Inc will be noticeably snappier, but the droid is no slouch.

Go to the store and try out the keyboard on the DROID, then make the call.

Like I said, I really do like having a keyboard. I had the LG Versa w/ attachable keyboard because I just couldn't let go of not having one. The Versa started getting on my nerves when I would have to touch the letter over and over on the screen before it would recognize it. I then had to switch on over to the keyboard. I also love how the moto droid is built. It looks like it can withstand a beating. I have a 2 yr old and an 11 month old and if they ever got a hold on my phone, I can see the droid surviving and the INC not making it. My 2 yr old has thrown my BB around and that thing has survived every fall. It really does take a beating. I'm def. going to test each phone out at a vzw tech store before I buy anything. Are there any rumors of a droid 2 coming out w/ a better keyboard??

I'm mostly inline with the previous answers, and would certainly take a look at the Incredible if I were buying new today.

However, one caveat that has not been mentioned yet, is that the Incredible comes with HTC's Sense UI while the Droid is a plain-vanilla Android OS. Yes, the Sense UI is very polished, but odds are that the custom interface means future OS updates may take longer to roll out to the HTC hardware.

Assuming I could trade in the Droid for an Incredible today with no additional money changing hands, I actually think I would hang on to the Droid, although I'd probably want to spend a few days thinking about it. ;)

its nuts to hear that knowone really uses their physical keyboard, i mean, ive only had my Droid for 2 weeks now but i desire a keyboard and dont mind that its " flat ".. i come from BB and just need solid keys oppose to a virtual..

question is, since im still within my 30day and with the Incredible coming out in 3 days is the exchange worth it?

I use the physical keyboard for some games, especially "What the Doodle" where you need the screen's real estate for the game screen, and for things that require the D-pad. Moving around a text input screen is SO much easier when using the d-pad to get the cursor where you need to edit something!

For most other typing needs, the virtual keyboard is just more accessible, especially when combined with the unofficial, beta install of Swype. That said, I still like having the physical keyboard as an option, and no, I don't think the extra couple of ounces to have it is that big a deal. :)

P.S. Some apps in the Market are designed specifically for hardware keyboards so it's nice to have the option available "just in case".

The keyboard is the biggest decision maker. I personally can't stand having a touch keyboard only. I use it for quick replies but mostly use the physical keyboard. You get used to the flat keys after a while. If your a big phone geek or if you just love to have a sweet, custom phone, a rooted droid is the way to go. I doubt you will notice a difference in speed between the droid and the incredible, and if you root, its a non issue as you can overclock and run your droid on turbo! Everyone I show my phone to loves the customizations I have done, from the custom home screen and icons to the smoked glass pull down shade with the droid bot in the corner. The camera is awesome and everything works super fast. Either way you will get a good phone. Try them both, you have 30 days.

I'm coming from using the storm. I really enjoy the droid and the pysical keyboard. I got used to using the virtual and the physical keyboard with a charm. So with experience on having a touchscreen and one with both. I would choose both. Like other people stated above for quick text I use the virtual keyboard and when I post something on furoms or have to type something that's more than ten words I use the pysical keyboard, less errors and a easier walk around.

At the end of the day its personal preference.

I prefer the physical keyboard over virtual, contrary to what others say here. It may be flat, but once you get used to it, you can type texts lightning fast, much faster than on a virtual keyboard. Also, with a physical keyboard, its a lot more productive. Whether or not people here will admit it, when you try to type with the touch screen keyboard, no matter if its HTC IME, Better Keyboard, stock, or whatever you use, when you touch to input text, it takes a bit to get the virtual keyboard out (1-2 seconds, sometimes more when your phone is acting up). With the virtual keyboard, I would have to wait for the thing to pop up and then after it would lag for another good 2-3 seconds before I could type in my texts (using Handcent). However, with the physical, I can just click and boom type in everything and press enter it will be sent. It might be just my ROM, which i admit is terrible (JRummy remix...A lot of you will disagree but in terms of stability this thing sucks).

My opinion? Since your a fervent user of that physical keyboard, I suggest you get the Droid. What would I do? I would definitely get the Incredible just because its the newest thing out and has better specs. And about your theory that the Droid is built like a brick, you are right, but you must keep some things in mind. The Droid is extremely heavy, and heavier objects drop with a bigger thud. I'm pretty sure my Droid would not survive a fall onto concrete without leaving pretty much significant scratches. I've dropped my Droid on non-concrete solid substances and it survived like a champ but it just gets huge nicks due to it dropping with a huge momentum compared to just a plastic phone. I guess it won't crack like plastic phones, but it will definitely show use.

So the choice is up to you. Keyboard or no keyboard. Brick vs. Light Plastic. Newest thing vs. Outdated yet good technology.

If you can wait 3 or 4 months, the Droid 2 is supposed to come out by the end of the summer. With basically the same form factor and an updated keyboard, processor and camera.

Just to give you more options ;)

Coming from an iPhone, the hardware keyboard is awesome and I've become pretty speedy with it. It all just depends on what you want. I am still within my 30 day return window but will be keeping the Moto Droid.

Don't forget about the car dock and multimedia dock. For $2o each on Amazon, they add a lot of functionality to the device and I don't think the Incredible will have them for awhile if ever.

Here is a slightly different perspective and most people will probably disagree with me...but I don't mind that they are wrong :D

The Droid is the single best phone to date! I've had mine since November and it seems to get better and better for me. Solid phone, and with all the options that root allows you...it's not a difficult decision IMO. The screen is solid, the graphics are very good, the build quality is impressive.

Now, I have the Droid as well as the HTC Touch Pro 2. IT IS EASIER TO TYPE ON THE DROID! While the TP2 is touted as having the best keyboard on any device, the keys on the TP2 are too spaced out and while I agree that the Droid's keyboard is not perfect...It works very well! I have big hands and it is not a problem. I'm running @ 1.2GHz, with Cyanogen ROM and there is not any other phone that can top it.

Incredible...yeah, I'm not real impressed by the initial reports...no thanks! Droid 2? That could be an option but not very much info out yet.

The specs I've seen on the Droid2 are so varying that I don't believe one damn word I've read. I saw the "leaked" video that shows what looks to be an even uglier version of the Devour...if that's the case...no thanks. I've also seen that the Droid2 will have a 4.3" screen. Like I said, I don't buy any of it till I see a proper video or even pics.

Over at HF there are two very well know and reputable sources that have seen and use the Droid 2 and the Shadow on a regular basis. They been around those forums a long time and given plenty of spot on details. Everything they have said has been show and been echoed by others that have also seen the phones.

Frankly many of the tech sites and blogs just have the wrong info up that came out well over 4 months ago, that don't know the difference between the Shadow/Droid 2 and so on. The render of the white phone with the red screen is completely wrong and old. I'm not sure what video you're speaking of but its nothing I've seem and is probably just another misinformed thing. The Droid 2 has been stated as simply being a small upgrade to the existing Droid 2 making small but noticeable improvements.

But take what you want from that I know dealing with "sources" and such is annoying without the proof. Must just be since my account is upgradeable in July it all got me excited haha.

Thanks guys! I'm really thinking that I will go w/ the Droid. I really do want that keyboard! June can't come soon enough. If there is a Droid 2 coming out later this year, then maybe I can use hubby's upgrade early next year to get it :)

If they were to come out with an Android phone with a large 4:3 hi-res touchscreen+slideout keyboard I would be adding a line to get it:p. But I don't see that happening anytime soon.

I think the Droid is better than the Incredible (for me, atleast). It has a better build quality and a physical keyboard. I hate light weight, plastic phones. The Incredible has a faster processor but this is not really an advantage because of the ability to OC on rooted Droids. The Incredible has a better camera but I could care less about the camera because I hardly ever use it. So, for me, the Droid is easily the preferable phone over the Incredible.
