Might want to jump on that... ebay's got 'em going out used for about $150 now.

Personally, I'm doing some heavy soul searching to decide if I want to sell mine and wait for the Evo while using my old flip phone, or if I want to wait till November when the Evo has had time to release so I can see if it delivers all the magical goodness it promises.

I feel you! I considered dumping the phone, but I'll wait out the EVO at least. The Moment is a bit disappointing, but it isn't horrible. Heck, if Samsung pulls a rabbit out of its hat and fixes the power, cdma lockup and location issues with the 2.1 release I may even be happy. My next upgrade isn't till November and I can easily wait that long. One thing is for certain, Samsung will have to do a much better job with future phones like the GalaxyS before I'll ever consider them again.

This will probably be my last Samsung phone as well... My upgrade isn't due until Jan 2011... But I'm pretty sure I won't be getting a Samsung phone...

I gotta agree with some of the issues being pretty severe, but aren't alot of the problems due to 1.5 in general and the patchwork they used to make it run on CDMA?

Battery - Given the lower signal strength, the phone searches much harder for a CDMA network, which drains the battery something fierce. I get between 4 & 6 hours of pretty heavy use on a charge. This is similar to my Verizon Touch Pro 2 and Verizon BlackBerry Storm.

CDMA Lockup - Again, this has to be a 1.5 being jimmy-rigged thing... Right? Please tell me that's right... lol

Lack of Accessories - Ok, besides a hard protector case, what is there? I think Sprint forgot that they sell this phone or something - a bluetooth headset is not a 'Samsung Moment Accessory' I'm sorry. This probably isn't due to 1.5, but I thought I'd throw in some humor...

But now to the real problem: What do the new devices do that the Moment doesn't?

Consistent connections: We have no idea how the Evo will do, nor the N1, or any other device that is in the pipeline. The Moment did great in testing, but as you can see, it's not doing so hot in real life.

Processor speed: Come on, switching from portrait to landscape makes Slacker or Rhapsody skip? Seriously? I thought this was faster than the Droid? Guess not...

AMOLED Screen: Blue, what the heck? Is the Evo going to be better? Looks like it in the video, but how bad does that battery get chewed up running HQ Youtube for 4 hours a day...

Battery: They've already stated that WiMAX takes less power to run than EVDO. Issue - it doesn't work indoors... Rut roh! Does that mean endless searching or a quick reset down to 1xRTT?

Now it's easy for us to sit back and beat the Moment to a pulp, but it's really not as bad as it seems. My Moto Q underperformed 1000x worse than this thing (45 minute battery life, poor screen, bad keyboard, etc...) and the BlackBerry Storm barely made phone calls some days.

By the time the Evo hits (Juneish?) we should hear about new Sammy devices, HTC devices and possibly a few others - LG? I bet the Evo will look good right up until someone announces the 1.2/1.5 Snapdragon chip in their new device coming in November. Then the early 2011 upgraders will have a great choice on their hands!

    well said z...

I really like my moment... I am so ready for the "official" 2.1 update to hit because I really think it will remedy a lot of the issues... The only reason I haven't rooted and put up the leaked 2.1 is because I only have a MAC and no access to a windows machine... It really is a good phone and I like it more and more... but like you said - come early 2011...I know there will be something bigger and better waiting for me - who knows, I might even be persuaded to get another Samsung phone...

I like mine, and 2.1 is looking to make it the phone I intended to buy in the first place, but I can't forget the last 6 months+ of Samsung and Sprint giving us all the runaround on this thing.

I know a few other people here feel the same, so when I happened to check the 'going rate' for used Moments, I thought I'd share.

drooooid you're kinda right though, prices ought to pick up if we get this update :p

Hate to break it to you guys, but the CDMA lockup/Airplane mode bug is still alive and mostly well in 2.1. It's not nearly as prevalent but it is still alive and kicking.

It's sneaky though. Now you don't see the EV icon at all whereas earlier it was just the up arrowing showing.

The official release n one knows if it will fix the CDMA lockup issue...no ones anything for sure about the official release since no one is running it. We are running a leaked version of dd10 which may or may not have been updated since we got the leak..i have seen a couple people talk about dd23 and dd17...we are on dd10...we dont know what the official is gonna bring so to say that the cdma lockups still exist is not relevant or truthful at all. I am running the leaked 2.1 and i love it, but i cant wait to run the official release and any custom kernals that come along with it

I'm confident it is an obscure app or a hardware quality issue.

My phone has never had lockup.
