This phone SUCKS!General

It was given to me by my job as a work phone. At first I was excited because I had an iphone 4 for the last 2 years, and I was ready for a change. But after a few short days of dealing with it, Im ready to trash it. This phone makes me miss my iphone in the worst way. The only upside is the 4G LTE speeds in my area. My fastest dl speed was over 30mbps. But aside from that(which the phone has nothing to do with), this thing is junk.

    Dislikes:
The touch sensitivity is crap. It takes 2-3 touches for something to happen.
The responsiveness of the phone is also very slow and choppy.
The bottom buttons are also dumbed down in terms of picking up inputs.
The camera takes all pictures very blurry. No matter how I set it up or take them.
The predictive keyboard is poor. It just replaces your word with some random word that has nothing to do with what you typed. My iphone was a genius on doing this.
If I could take this phone back, I would in a second. But its a free work phone, and almost not worth the trouble.

bottom line, pass on this phone. My last android devices like the incredible and droid X were worlds better than this thing.

I agree that the phone sucks with regards to the stock software. I have a great phone now that I replaced the software. Even with it being a work phone could you flash a better operating sys?

Here is what the Droid Charge can do when working correctly...

Check out KDpics.com and scroll down to the post titled

Screen and sound quality are all this model has going for it.

Now on my 5th unit in 14 months including 3 in the last month and a half. Verizon keeps sending me refurbished replacements, each with else something wrong. Have wound up wasting several hours each time setting it all up all over again. Worst battery life imaginable whether or not on 4G. Ever heard of a phone where you have to have 6 chargers (bedroom, kitchen, desk, living room, basement, and of course the car) and 3 batteries just to keep going? Locks up, shuts off, and intermittent delays from a few seconds to SEVERAL MINUTES (no joke) when trying to make a call from the call log or going between screens make you want to throw this thing against a wall. Half of my incoming calls wind up with a smashing static sound in my ear and/or just no voice at all. Several Verizon 2nd level tech support reps have admitted getting these kind of complaints about this device nowadays.

This model is an abortion and BOTH Samsung and Verizon should be ashamed to continue selling it. In fact, both companies should offer Droid Charge owners free or almost free trade ups to the Galaxy S3.

some of your complaints on the phone, while valid are easily fixed....

the slow interface on the phone...i take it you are using the stock Touchwiz, WHICH SUX!

download any of the available alternatives, some for free...I have GO Launcher and like it a lot...

the keyboard? really lol? there are probably 100 different keyboards with different settings, tools and are better at "remembering" your tendancies...

I have Swype right now but what also using GO Keyboard....

If you want to read over-the-top critical exaggeration, look no further than smartphone message boards and college football message boards.

I really like my Charge. Does what I need it to do:

    • excellent GPS performance
    • excellent screen clarity and legibility, even in bright sun
    • great sound quality
    • 4G LTE from Verizon - fastest system around
    • size a good compromise of bulk and legibility
    • not bad battery life, and you can change them out!

I understand, to some degree, disappointment with the phone, but to say it "sucks" is ridiculous.

I like my Charge...nothing is perfect. There are work arounds for almost every complaint. Juice Defender changed my life - no more complaints about battery life. Getting rid of apps you downloaded but dont use seems to help too. I barely touch the screen and it reacts so don't know what's up with that....did you try a stylus? Got my first tablet (Acer Iconia) and actually using it as much as my phone now for internet and scheduling. Love that thing. The OS update this week seems to makes things a little quicker and I love the change to the contacts directory scrolling - so much better now. I was surpised to get this update.

I agree completely. I've had mine from launch day and I'm happy with it. Vivid screen, nice camera, great sound quality, and most of all 4G LTE speed.

It's not the perfect phone but for goodness sake, the hyperbole about how bad it is just silly.

We have three Samsung Charge phones in our family. ALL three have serious issues. I can't believe Samsung actually lost the lawsuit over these phones. They could have brought us into the courtroom and had us show our phones to the jury. They would have laughed and dropped the suit.

We all agree the screen is gorgeous, colorful, sharp and big.

Our phones are about a year old.
We all have to have multiple chargers and batteries at home and at work. Charged phone lasts a couple of hours if Wifi or any apps are left on.
All three phones will randomly load apps when the phone is moved.
Talk sound is HORRIBLE on all three phones.

This phone does all kinds of crazy things:
When taking pictures and or video, the phone overheats and locks. Battery must be removed to get the phone to restart. Consistent problem.
GPS makes the phone get really hot. Consistent problem.
Phone randomly makes a piercing, screeching (deafening) sound during calls and has to be shut off.
Phone is slow - Internet access with WiFi at home is painfully slow, rarely use it because it's so bad. Web pages take FOREVER to load. Family member with iPhone 4 has no issues with this (or anything else).
I'm ready to throw this phone out the window!

The list goes on. I can't imagine how the Galaxy S III will be any better after a year of use.

I'm an Android fan but wish there was a reliable, affordable phone that could run it. So disappointed!!!!

Comparing the Droid Charge to the Galaxy S3 is the same as comparing a $500 laptop to a $2000 laptop. They really are worlds apart when comparing the components and operating system. I have both.

The new iphone happens to have many of the parts the S3 already had. For example the cameras are the same. But the iphone happens to be missing many items such as a functioning map app and the ability to be used as true GPS since it has no antenna. Plus I like to customize and that is really not possible with an iphone when compared to the Android atmosphere.

I am sorry to hear you and your family have had so many issues with the charge. I was curious if you ever had your power at home checked for fluctuations? The amount and type of issues you are having could be due to electricity in your home. It is just to strange to have all those hardware issues with so many different phones.

I know this is far from a fix all, but have you tried to use a bluetooth ear piece with the phones to get around the audio issues? Maybe that could hold you and your family over until you all can get new phones.

Again, sorry to hear about your troubles.

I have had my Droid Charge Stock since June a year ago. Yes it has had it's share of problems. The April update really helped it. My biggest problem is that it doesn't like to upload FB pics and also I wish I had better reception. Husbands Commando has much better reception. But otherwise the battery life is good for the day for the most part unless I use the hotspot.

Been on my iphone 5 for a few days now, and I can honestly say that the charge makes a better door stop or paper weight than phone. Man apple has their stuff together. My kids love playing with my old droid charge in the bath as their new phone....LOLOL

Touch sensitivity: I use GOLauncher EX. Works great for me.
Camera: Really? I've seen some of the best pics of any phone I've ever had including the front facing camera. Either the camera is messed up, the lens is obstructed or some other problem.
Keyboard: Use SwiftKey 3. Absolute BEST predictive android keyboard hands down.

And if you still think this phone sucks, try spending a week with a piece of **** Droid PRO as a backup. I had to do that while my Charge was being repaired. GOD, I love the big screen!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D
