    So after 3 replacement RAZR Maxx's due to a faulty headphone jack each time, that problem has followed me to my S4. For full disclosure, the Maxx's issue was the jack just getting scratchy and eventually not working. It wasn't the same type of problem.

    When I got my S4 the day after lunch day, the headphone jack never worked right. Things wouldn't snap in well and I didn't know anything was wrong until after the 14 days. I got my returb replacement, and things were fine.

    Now it's going out again, so I'm going by the Verizon place to order another refurb.

    Is there something wrong with phones I get or what? Please don't suggest Bluetooth headphones, that won't fix bad build quality. I am careful with my phone and I don't abuse it in any way. It also doesn't matter what kind of accessory I plug in. It's not what I'm plugging in that's bad.

    A friend of mine has an iPoop 4 and the darn thing is three years old and has a perfectly good headphone jack with nearly daily use.

    What the heck? Why is everything a cheap piece-O-kwap? Anyone else have a persistent problem that follows them to another phone?

    I would get a ONE , but I want removable storage.

    using the same plug in for the jack on all phones?

    Can i ask did you use the same headphone jack if so that maybe a problem cause one of my headphone wasn't the same size for the jack and i brought one that i wasn't using correct i didn't push it in all the way

    I haven't had a problem with my S4 and I use various things to plug into the headphone jack. If you have a case on the phone, remove it and see if the problem goes away. Try a better pair of headphones/ear buds. If none of these work, it might be user error then the device. Seeing that its happed with two different phones from two different manufactures. Also, could be that they were referbs. too.

    I've noticed that if I use my $6 clearance ear buds that are simple stereo ones, it has this problem. However, if I use the Samsung ones that come with the phone or my new Skull Candy ones with a microphone built in, it doesn't have any issues.

    I think the problem may be the headphone end on whatever I plug in to my phone. The end has 2 little insulators between the metal piece on a simple stereo headphones end. If what I plug in has other things built in like the ear buds I mentioned earlier, there are 3 insulators on the end to separate the plug. I think the phone isn't meant for plain stereo headphones.

    Bearing in mind that, as you say, this problem follows you around, it's hard not to conclude that it is something you are doing that is causing the problem.

    I have owned several smartphones and have usually used either the supplied earphones or my Sennheiser earphones (which are stereo with no mic). I have never had any problems.

    If the problem is with the earphones/accessories you have used, I think it has more to do with the quality you would expect of $6 earphones rather than whether they have a mic or not. As I said, my Sennheisers worked perfectly in my S2 and now in my S4.
