    Hey guys,

I know this may not be entirely on topic, but this thread is pretty much a thread for anything new android coming to Verizon, so I had to post. I've been waiting since mid-December for a new Android phone, which I know is not nearly as long as some of you others. I wasn't a big fan of the Droid's form factor/keyboard and the Eris just didn't seem powerful/quick enough for me. I started researching, found you guys here at the forum (who have been a huge help), and decided to wait for the Bravo/Incredible/N1/whatever it will be tomorrow. I thought we'd find out something soon, but I have to be honest, I'm about to give in.

Today I started researching the Palm Pre Pro, and to be honest, it looks like it has some potential. I researched WinMo phones prior to this, but came to the conclusion they aren't even worth looking at til WM7 is released. Anyone have any thoughts regarding the Palm Pre? I know it's an android forum and I'll probably get all negative stuff, but like I said, you guys have been very helpful thus far so I thought I'd try.

I was thinking maybe a one-year contract, then re-examine Windows Mobile 7 and Android devices at the end of the year. It's just killing me because my blackberry pearl flip just isn't cutting it anymore...especially since it is water damaged and malfunctions sometimes. Either way, any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks guys

Kinda in the same boat. Broke down and ordered my Droid 2 Fridays ago with a 1 year contract (just in time for the incredible picture leak). So I can either return it within my 30 days, or keep it and sell it later if something better comes out (you could do the same). I was hoping to get input today to so to know whether to send the Droid back. Choices.

mykp...what were your thoughts before you bought the Droid, and what do you think of it now that you have had it a few weeks?

Why not the Eris? With the Sense it is a cooler phone. Maybe not as fast but better in hand and in pocket.

My thoughts before hand on the Droid were like most, it was ugly. But once I held it I started to appreciate the looks alot better. I like the heft and metal of it as I feel I can drop it without as much fear. It fits my hand better then my Storm 1 did and even a little bit better then the Eris (though that will be relative to different people). I bought the Droid because A) I just got sick of waiting and B) realised an unused line on the family plan would be upgradable in July.
Afterwards, its a good phone. This probably wont be that helpful of a review because I've had it less then a week. The biggest gripe I have against it is personal being its not a Sense phone. But I've made it close as far as info presented, Home++ to get 7 screens (though I will probably go down to 6), Genie news and weather from 2.1 for weather (beautiful widget was too slow to open), and anycut to setup one touch dialing. Is it slow at times? Yes. But I think thats more Android rather then Droid and maybe the 2.1 update will fix this and its hardly all/most of the time. My wife has an Eris and the Sense UI does make it slightly easier for some things. Then again she is playing the waiting game for the Eris's 2.1 update and is getting pissed because of the apps I can run (setup is so much easier with barcode scanner) that she cannot (seriously urbanspoon only on Droid and N1? why?). Maybe too much negativity, buts its a new phone.
Ok I seem to be rambling, let me know if there is anything specific you want to know either about the Droid or matching up the Droid and Eris.

Better in hand and pocket is a relative phrase though. I like the way the Droid feels, but thats me and not you. if they could hurry up with the 2.1 updates it would be a better test of the quickness of both.

I decided to give up. Buying ERIS from craigslist. This will tide me over until the Desire or whatever arrives. I will let you know how it goes.....

That's what I did! Then, when I get the 1Ghz Verizon Android I want (don't ask which, I don't know yet), I'll sell the Eris on Craigslist or eBay and make back what I paid for it. Woohoo....free phone for a few months!

Although, I REALLY LIKE the Eris. And with 2.1 just a couple of weeks away (hopefully) I know I'll love it even more.

Unless you got a great deal on a used Eris, you'd be very fortunate to recoup your original costs once the latest and greatest hits the shelf.

My buddy tried something similar when the iPhone 3G was coming out. He thought he'd recoup his costs by selling his "slightly used" 2G and use the funds towards a new 3G. Unfortunately, once the 3G was available, used 2G prices tanked and he wound up stuck.

Hopefully, that won't be the case for you though and it works out to your advantage!

I had the Eris for a week back in December, thought it was cool but laggy. Heard of better things coming out on this forum, so returned Eris to play the waiting game. Got impatient after almost 2 months and didn't really like BB/Palm/iPhone/winmo interface/options. Similar to mykpfsu, I tried the Droid. 3 weeks now and it has really grown on me. It feels well built, I've gotten used to the keyboard, and now I have constant work email access, which I really needed, thanks to Touchdown app. I thought for sure I'd return this phone after a week, but I've started buying accessories for it, so definitely a keeper.

Not trying to talk you into a Droid, but seems that since you're following this forum, android is drawing your attention. The Android platform is awesome (and the Droid runs it pretty well)... so if you're thinking about giving in, maybe get your feet wet and try a Droid. That way you get to test run android before you jump to Palm. You can always return it within 30 days, reactivate your old phone to get back to square one in the waiting game.

Well if you play it smart it will work though it will require sacrifice. You sell the Eris a week (or longer) before what you want comes out. Get a crap phone (smart phone or no) you hopefully have lying around and put it on your phone line. That way you shouldn't have to deal with depreciation. At least that should work in theory.

    ^great plan.
Seems like a lot of people are getting anxious-buying something until something comes out. I am sooo sick of my winmo phone. Also looking into an eris-especially with 2.1 coming soon.
Would not recommend anything other than android though. I am hooked after having the droid for a month.

Love my Droid and I have it OCed to 1.1ghz (some have it up to 1.3ghz). It's buttery smooth, baby. I couldn't tolerate the wait many of you have had to put up w/, especially knowing that phones like the Legend and Desire may never actually make it to the States, let alone Verizon (though I think they will). The only question remains, when will the Incredible touch down?

I'll be upgrading at least one line to another Android device (I have no prior experience w/ smartphone OSes, but I'm wholly in love w/ the Bot) in May (def my g/f, doubt any of my other lines are ready for a smartphone). She's loves what my Droid is capable of, but it's not the most appealing phone to her. She does find the Devour more appealing, but while she wouldn't notice it's downgrade from the Droid, I'm not sure I could let her w/o knowing where we stand w/ the Incredible.
