Titanium backup/2.2.1/2.3.4 question.

I recently bought a MT4G and wanted to root it so that I could use Titanium backup to bring over my applications+data. So after downgrading from 2.3.4 to 2.2.1 and then rooting the phone with VISIONary, I downloaded titanium backup and when I tried going in to restore my apps+data I had previously backed up from my other phone, they weren't there. I'm confused because I bought a different MT4G phone that came rooted already running 2.3.4 and titanium backup backed up my apps+data just fine... I'm wondering if I need to update back to 2.3.4 in order to restore my backed up apps in titanium backup? And if that's the case can you please supply me with a link to a good noob guide on how to do that? Please, any help/information will be greatly appreciated!

Did you move over the Titanium Backup folder from your previous device to your new one? Backups are stored in a folder on the sd card of the device you made it on. Sorry if you explained that, I didn't get it from your post.

No, I didn't. Thank you for such a quick reply. How do you move over the Titanium backup folder to the new phone? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I really have no idea what I'm doing. Lol

No problem. Well probably the easiest way of all is to just move the old card to the new device if that's an option. Othewise you can always hook up to a PC and copy the Titanium Backup folder to the PC, then transfer it to another device in a similar fashion. Or use Dropbox, Airdroid, there's several ways to get to the same end.

Bottom line is you want that folder on the root of your new device's sd card since that's where your backups are housed. Somewhat recently, there was an option added to TiBu to save a copy of your backups to Dropbox. If you used that feature, or if you still have access to the old device, you might be able to use that option, then snag the contents while on your new device. Not sure, I have made a Dropbox backup but haven't played with it across devices so far.

I actually put my SD card from my old phone into my new phone. Is that what you're saying? With my other MT4G that I bought that came rooted running 2.3.4 all I did was download Titanium backup and all of my apps were there and I was able to restore. With this new mytouch even after I rooted and downloaded Titanium backup and put in the SD card I used with my other phone, the apps still wont show up so that I can restore. I hope I'm making sense!

Using a file explorer navigate to /sdcard/titaniumbackup and make sure the files are still there on the SD card.

Thank you. Okay so I did that and it says it's empty. But when I go onto my other phone and do the backups it works just fine, but putting it on my MT4G is not working. I'm not sure what to do now.

on the other phone does it say you have any backups in that folder?

Yes, the backups are all on the old phone. What can I do to get them to my new phone? This is becoming a pain in the ass!

So let me get this straight, when you move the card to your old device, then use a file manager to explore the contents of the Titanium Backup folder, it's full of backup files? Yet when you move the card to your new device, the files from the Titanium Backup folder disappear?

We're not talking about the presence/absence of apps in general on the old device. Only the backup files located in that folder. That sounds quite strange.

Sorry for jumping to this thread. I have a similar question but somehow different.
I decided to use a larger sd card so I backed up my apps/games by Titanium, now I have the problem that I can't take them to the new card, I hardly want to go through installing them one at the time. Is there a quick way of reinstalling them back?
    thanks in advance.

Yes. Mass restore is a feature of the paid version of titanium

Why not just back the up on the new SD? They should still be installed on your phone.

Yes! That's exactly what's happening. No matter how many times I back them up on my old phone, they still disappear when I transfer over to my new phone. I contacted TiBu developers and all they said was to make sure the path is mnt/sdcard/TitaniumBackup, which it is on both devices. So, now I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do in order to get my apps+data transferred over to my new phone.

Try sending the backup's to Dropbox or your computer from the old phone then putting them on the card on the new phone...it makes no sense that the new phone is not reading that part of the SD card for some reason.

Okay so what I did was downloaded drop box onto my computer and plugged in my old phone, from there I copied the files from Titanium backup to my drop box, plugged in my new phone, went to the same Titanium backup folder (that was empty) and pasted them to that folder, went back to titanium backup on my new phone and it all transferred over! Thank you both so much for all of your help!!! :D:D:D

Just one more thing now, is there a way to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.3.4 without losing my root privileges?

I am not too familiar with the phone...if there is a rooted 2.3.4 rom you should be able to flash it

Yeah it does take a little research but once you do it a time or two you shouldn't have any issues ;)
